When I first opened this thread I was under the impression
that games were working in color with a NTSC Wii and A/V
cables, but running A/V cable through a DVD recorder that
has been unlocked for all regions will allow "Some" wii games
to play in color, but not all of them..

as people replyed to the post I believe that it is not possible
at all at this point to play a NTSC game in color directly through
a NTSC Wii and A/V cables to a non HD TV.

I am very sorry for not doing more research before I made this
post..

All the compatablity lists seem to be PAL and HD
and I have not seen a plain NTSC/AV Color list..

Here are the Games that I have tested that works in color
on a NTSC WII with plain audio video cables:

Mario Kart - NTSC
Boom Blox - NTSC
Lego Indiana Jones - NTSC
Lego Batman - NTSC
Soul Calibur Legends - NTSC

Please add more to this list so others can avoid wasting a
DVD when they expect color on a NTSC/AV WII setup..

Thanks

I also have a NTSC Wii using the standard AV cable. I tested Lego Batman (NTSC), but the game appeared in black and white and the screen kept scrolling making it unplayable for me. Did you do any extra patching? I also tested Star Wars: TFU. The game was playable, but was in black and white too.

Do you have an HDTV? I have a regular Sony 32" CRT TV. I wonder why your Batman worked.

The only thing I can think of is, that I am running the A/V cables
through a DVD Recorder (Which is region Unlocked), and then
outputing to TV (Which is an old Sanyo 32" TV, 7 or 8 years old and Non HD)
using a SV cable

not sure that is the solution since not all games run in color

im trying some more to see if I can get them in color tonight.

I have the PAL version of Boom Blox running on an NTSC Wii with AV cables and it's black and white. Will getting the NTSC version fix it the black and white? Will getting component cables fix the black and white too?

I think the DVD recorder might be what's changing the signal to NTSC. I'll see if I can grab some equipment to try this.

Tried playing the following on my 32' HDTV WITHOUT component cables...

Star Wars: Force Unleashed [NTSC]
Super Paper Mario [NTSC]

Both were in black and white.

Boom Blox NTSC worked in full color with my NTSC WII and A/V

Also just tested Wii Ski, and it works in color

thats interesting you guys got boom box to work.
i got an ISO that was NTSC-U of it.

and i tried it, and i got the invalid format screen on my TV (which usually means its PAL)

then i tried a few things

WiiFrii to NTSC - PAL

Wii Free to PAL - NTSC

and i get the same thing on all of them.

but i DID plug the wii in with the Composite Cables (Yellow, Red, White) and i could actually see something, but it was in black and white and off center.
it was clearly putting out a PAL signal. i m not sure what the problem was.

Running through a DVD recorder that is region unlocked might have something to do
with it, I dont know, but Boom Blox NTSC-U works in color on my WII.

NTSC WII
(A/V Red, White, Yellow)

So it won't work with a NTSC Wii and the regular AV cable. You need something extra like your unlocked DVD recorder or the component cables. I hooked up my Wii to my computer using the composite cable, opened up VLC and changed the capture settings to a version of PAL and was able to view Star Wars TFU and Lego Batman in color, but the color was a bit off and the screen was a bit cropped.
