I'm getting a Wii and a chip soon, and I plan to back up my own games. I've googled around, and I found there are two efficient ways at the moment, using one of 4 certain LG drives, or using a gamecube "gecko" SD adapter. The adapter method sounds better to me but I have some questions.

1. Can this do the same thing as the Gecko version? http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4980

2. What is needed to Rip the games, other than the SD card and the Adapter? (Chipped Wii, etc.)

3. Does the Gecko adapter support SDHC cards? and if not, how do you do it in parts?

4. Can Gamecube games be backed up this way as well?

5. After the ISO is ripped, will I have to do anything to it before it is "burnable" by Nero, DVDdecrypter, etc..

Thanks.

1) Install Twilight Hack

2) Run a Wad Installer, and install Homebrew Channel v8

3) download this - http://caitsith2.net/wii/wiihttpd-do.zip

4) install that on your SD card.

5) Run the program

6) on your PC connect to your Wii via Wifi

7) download the ISO

8) burn with IMGBurn or Nero

9) install ModChip

10) ...?

11) ENJOY!

Going over wifi with Firefox, it downloads at about 400kbps, and takes about 2 1/2 - 3 hours per SINGLE layer game (only dual layer game is SSBB at the time of this post)

this app will also allow you to rip/download GameCube games

Decent I guess, I'd still like to hear about the SD card method though, since my connection is pretty much shit.

Internet connection doesn't matter...

This is going from the Wii to the router, to your PC... no internet is ever required!

The SD method doesn't work for everyone, and is alot more complicated...

You have to dump each disc in 3 parts, combine all 3 parts, then burn (as far as I know, it can't do dual layer, or gamecube)

You sure? Because my computer isn't hooked up to my router by ethernet, it's on wifi as well.

Is your Computer connected to the same router your Wii is?

Then you'll be fine... (and btw, I know the answer is yes)

Here's what you can even do! Get a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT router! Dont connect it to the internet, just connect your computer and Wii to it... wireless or not... and you'll STILL get the same speed.

I have a laptop which is Wireless, and my Wii is Wireless... going through Firefox, I can "download" the ISO at about 400kbps.

Your internet speed has nothing to do with backing up a disc!

well I use an sd gecko and it's incredibly easy.
it also only takes around 50 mins to back up a single layer disc.

but whatever works.

The Wifi dumper is indeed the best and easiest way to go. It can dump Wii disc (both single and dual layer) and Gamecube discs. If for whatever reason this won't work for you, there is also an application that dumps the disc to the front-sd slot. So you just need a SD-card, no additional hardware like SD Gecko is required.

Hang on.... running httpd on your wii alone won't let you dump games!

You need custom IOS (which I'm not totally comfortable with... I'm waiting for bushing etc on hackmii to release their stuff)

Hey, I have a question about the WiFi dumper...I live in Canada and and with my ISP I have a 20 GB download limit per month... So if i use the dumper, will it be counted on my 20GB or it wont because I'm only downloading on my local network...
