Hello fellow tempers,

Years passed since I sold my DS and today I found myself wanting to play some new games on DS.
I'd like you to advice me on which games to get, mainly RPG's.

My personnal preference goes for good story, tactical combats and hard difficulty. I don't like real time combat like in the "Tales of" games.
The very last RPGs I played on DS before I sold it were Etrian Odyssey 1 and Final Fantasy 3.

As of now, I'm considering FF4, Etrian 2 and the DQ remakes.

Is there anything else worth buying ? I didn't follow the DS news quite much, don't even know if that Shin Megami Tensai game is out or not.

I'm not considering japanese games.

And I'm not against non-RPG proposal

.

Thank you !

Shin megami tensei is out and you should get it now.

Mostly RPG's here: Final Fantasy tactics A2, Final Fantasy 4, Etrian 2, both the DQ remakes, Suikoden, Advance wars(both), Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Disgaea DS, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier, and Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja, Luminous Arc(all). I will get back to you if I find more.

Thank you you two !

I didn't really liked the first FFTA (besides TRPG are among my favorite type of game and FFT behind the best IMO). I'm a big castlevania/metroid fan, I heard the new one is very good

.

About Disgaea DS, is it a good port of the PS2 version ? I've played it a bit on PS2 and really liked it.

All the castlevania's on DS are amazingly awesome, definitely get them all!

This version of Disgaea is the best yet, with all the stuff from the psp version plus even more extras like prinny commentary(prinny on upper screen gives his often amusing opinions on the situation).

Also if you don't mind action rpg's try The World Ends With You, and Phantasy Star 0(one of my personal favorite games), Lunar Knights(if you lile Kojima), and Ninjatown for tower defense.

You could try Might and Magic Clash of Heroes or Overlord Minions. I still like these game or try Fighting Fantasy The Warlock of Firetop Mountain.

All I can say enjoy the games.

Well, Disgaea DS is a tradeoff. The graphics and sound are worse - sound quality especially has taken a noticeable hit, with most of the voices missing, and the few remaining voices and the music are very tinny - but there are a few extras; you can get Pleinair as a playable character, and all of the optional bosses from the PSP version (Adell, Rozalin, and Zetta) join your group after you defeat them. However, Zetta, Adell, and Rozalin are all monster classes (understandable for Zetta, not so much for Adell and Rozy). Pleinair is a unique humanoid (like Laharl, Etna, etc) who uses a gun, but she only has one innate skill.

I like the Rune Factory games; they combine Final Fantasy and Harvest Moon into a single, engaging (HAHA marriage pun
tongue.gif
) game. I've played RF1 a lot, but I haven't played RF2 very much yet.

You say you don't want any Japanese games, but what about ones with translation patches? Soma Bringer is fun, and DarthNemesis' translation patch (found here) seems to have nearly everything translated - the only bit of Japanese I've seen so far is one screen with a few words. Tales of Innocence and Archaic Sealed Heat are two other projects to watch; they will be releasing soon (probably in the next few months) and both look to be good games.

Jump Ultimate Stars is a fun time-waster, and also has a complete English translation patch. While it's a fighting game and not an RPG, it's pretty simple to learn and fun to play.

If you like the monster-battling games, I prefer Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker over the Pokemon games, mostly because I like the DQ monsters and Toriyama's character designs.

Story wise = Crono trigger (alright story but nicely done)
World ends with you (its an action RPG so you might no like it, but has the best story on DS)
Dragon Quest V (Cliche, predictable, and old school but heart warming like a Pixar film)
FF IV = (Same as above but i didnt like it as much, but you might its kinda tough)

Tactical = Disgaea (addicting but not much tactics once you are over powered from grinding)
Shin Megami (Fun and thats all i can say I didnt beat it yet and i heard its tough)

So its up to you and i also think FFT is the best

That is very true, I think the DS version is best because:

1. To me content is more important than graphics or sound in games(esp. on handhelds).

2. I don't have a PSP

.

3. DOOOOD(Prinny commentary)!

4. Even though they don't speak it's still riotously funny.

I agree.

I'm a Strategy Fan myself. Check out these titles

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor *favorite

Knights in the Nightmare

Hoshigami Remix

Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume

Laevatein Tactics
Laevaten Trailer

FFA2 is a must play for everyone- period

FF12 is OK, I dont remember why I didn't like it.
Same with Heroes of Mana
Rondo of Swords is fun too.

These are all what I would consider tactic games with grid movement and involve turn based game play with unique elements to each game.

Thanks! I completely forgot about Soma Bringer, gonna have to watch Tales of Innocence and Archaic Sealed Heat. Also check out SaGa 2, it's almost fully translated, more than playable.

Wow, that's a lot of input
smile.gif
. Thank you all.

Ok, let's try to sort this out.

What I'll be checking :
- FF4
- Etrian Odyssey 2 (really loved the first one)
- DQ 4 & 5 (never did a DQ)
- Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (obvious to me)
- Disgaea DS (hope the sounds are to strange compared to the ps2 version)
- Tacticslayer (I don't know anything about this game)
- Overlord Minions (loved the Xbox version)
- Might and Magic Clash of Heroes
- Knights in the Nightmare
- Soma Bringer (never been interested in it since it wasn't released in english, but if there's a patch...)
- Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime (heard it's addictive)
- Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
- World Ends with you
- Laevatein Tactics (looks interesting, didn't knew about this game)

What I may check :
- The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
- Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
- Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier (not fan of Robot Taisen, but may consider it if I the combats are interesting)
- Luminous Arc 1, 2, 3 (I didn't liked the first one, but I didn't played it much)
- Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (very interested in, but heard it's ultra hard and I don't like to be frustrated)

What I won't look after :
- Advance wars (I don't find them to have changed much since the GBA episodes, although they'r very nice)
- Izuna (although I know Izuna's games are quite good, the fact I don't like soccer is enough to me ^^)
- Fire emblem's (player the GBA/GC ones, found them very basic, classic and almost all the same)
- FFTA2 (really didn't liked the GBA one)

Games I did :
- Lunar Knights (including Boktai etc, very nice games)
- Dementium the Ward
- Metroid Prime Hunters (I'm a metroid fan, but I hated this one, I want a 2D sequel !)
- Megaman zx
- Resident Evil Deadly Silence
- Chrono trigger (did it on snes, excellent game, short and easy but excellent)
- Rondo of Swords (didn't liked it much)
- Heroes of Mana (AI was horrible.....)

I don't know if I'll be able to test all of them, but I have obviously everything I need to restart playing on DS ^^.

Thank you again.
