AYANEO 3, a modular handheld gaming PC, crowdfunding campaign launched

Late last year, AYANEO revealed their next-gen handheld gaming PC, the AYANEO 3. The company has today launched the product, and, as expected, they are doing so initially via a crowdfunding campaign. As usual, caution is advised with such campaigns. Accompanying the launch were more details about the device and a new trailer:

As a next-gen device, the AYANEO 3 packs better specs than AYANEO's former models and comes with an interesting feature: modular face buttons. AYANEO has revealed two standard modules (conductive buttons and micro-action buttons), a touchpad module and a fighting module. The full module kit retails at an early bird price of $99. The mechanism looks similar to the magnetic modules of Thrustmaster's eSWAP controllers, and they allow for a range of gameplay styles.

Early bird pricing for the AYANEO 3 starts at $699 for the AMD 8840U model and $1299 for the AMD AI 9 HX 370 model. However, details of the battery capacity seems to be lacking and this is a major factor for handheld devices.

The AYANEO 3 crowdfunding campaign is now live and has already exceeded its goal. Shipping is expected to start in April.

I like the idea of a customizable button layout, I'm surprised no one is caring about this feature specifically

> Company only makes money from selling hardware
>Gbatemp why is this company releasing another piece of hardware
If you have to live off of selling hardware, you'd think it's better to diversify your product lineup and not oversaturate your very own market, right? From an economic standpoint, this company is going to do very poorly in the long run unless they find another market at some point.

This company produces so much ewaste and random products

They don’t need some fake kick starter help they have money lmao
It's basically just a market test to see if people actually want it first before making them at this point. They really don't even sell that many units through Kickstarter and I doubt their direct sales are much higher. I wouldn't say they're struggling but they basically have to keep shitting out new models to stay in business.

Love all these devices and ones already on the market (apart from shitdeck) and nintendo STILL won't innovate to match or beat the hardware of these nevermind its rival consoles.

It just proves we do not need nintendo anymore just to play the same old recycled shit and games we can ready play and own.

The excuse of gaming on the go its deluded fantards would use has long gone.

Nintendo are a thing of the past and if what I think is going to happen, that switch 2 is just same shit with slight improvement from its first, then only its hype and loyal fans are going to make it sell.

And it'll be yet again another Port whore.

Hi Spidey,

Could you elaborate on your specific hate for the steam deck ?
I find it quite intriguing.

I've thrown away so many Switches because something went bad. No more! Now I can throw away an Ayaneo.

Both of the two Switch Lites I've had developed stuck pixels on the screen. It sucks because the one I have now has a picofly in it.

I kinda wish I had a Lite with a bad screen lol. Can't justify upgrading one with a fine screen to OLED.

It's disappointing the "modularity" doesn't cover CPU, GPU and RAM.

But unfortunately is a flaw shared with any handheld and laptops... with laptop you could at least change RAM, but nowadays the majority comes with soldered RAM...

I'm glad to see others pointing out how ridiculous it is to keep churning out handhelds at such a fast pace.

You buy it, and in less than a month, support for it is dropped in favor of the new "AYA NEO FLIP 2 DX". You are left with a handheld that is usable but if anything breaks, you're left with an expensive piece of e-waste.

Did literally no one in charge of these things just stop and think "Wait a second, we already released 50 handhelds last year, do we really need to announce a crowdfunding campaign for ANOTHER one?"

But hey, it's "mOdUlAr" now

The only way I see this "modular" thing taking off, or serving any purpose, is if everyone agrees on and adapts a certain standard, and then you have a new segment of accessories. Otherwise, what's the point with, realistically, weeks of (poor) support? If any one company could pull this off it'd maybe be Valve, but given the potential design implications I'd rather they just didn't.
