Part of me is happy the Switch is getting hacked, but the other part of me feels kinda bad for them. They tried so hard this time to have a super secure system, going as far as trying to not have a functioning web browser. Then their console they tried the hardest on, gets cracked in record time, and it's not even their fault. :(
That's life... You start using hardware that's already been around for a few years, you can bet you're going to have a bad time.

Wait, the chip the Switch uses is also in automatic driving cars?
The true autonomous cars are probably using some quite powerful hardware in them...

Some have Tegra, but maybe its just for multimedia since this X1 tegra is not that much powerful, I have no clue if some autopilot cars are actually using the Tegra for driving, but they arent exactly full autonomous cars, they have a small autopilot function which is not supposed to make the car to drive alone like a true autonomous car, its more like a assist...

Anyway on the Tesla cars I think autopilot have been disabled since it caused death on model S and model X ;).

But upcoming Tegra chips are way more powerful than this X1 tegra and actually have a huge power consumption more like a laptop, its not wise to be used on a very small product like Switch or the battery would be killed quite fast (however later Nvidia might make a custom reduced version for a improved Switch, but I don't think that is needed so soon)...

I understand how you feel, but tell that to people who paid good money for their switch and used it legitimately, only to have Nintendo brick it because they didn't want to be more open with how they're implementing usb C

Hard to feel bad for them at all then

Well, I hope Nintendo repaired their Switches for free. It would be fucked up to charge them anything, after it was partially Nintendo's fault.

Yeah but a few already from this forum didn't have that luck... In some countries they bought from stores or somewhere that have no warranty and they said they can't send to Nintendo there, no idea ;)

Also some countries I think have only 1 year warranty and they broke recently after one year...

Nintendo will probably ask a lot of money and with so many problematic Switches I'm thinking there's something really bad designed in them.

I'm even thinking if it's not something like apple thunderbolt 15v that keep blowing most beyond repair it's really thunderbolt when that chip blows it really blows, most completely destroy the board.

One guy here using only Nintendo hardware reported that his Nintendo official dock catched fire or melted...

It’s not all been lost, don’t forget this only applies to the first years worth of switches ,this hardware exploit is going to be fixed with switches coming next month.

Sure 20 million unpatchable consoles is a major fail but with the rate switches are selling,20 out of 100+ million it isn’t the end of the world for Nintendo.

You can guarantee this type of hardware exploit is a one off and if and when you need to get your system serviced in the future or exchange with your retailer it will for sure be replaced with the newer model.

Wait, new batch of switches are coming next month? Cr*p, I need to buy one before the end of the month then. I still found one EU Mario red unit in our local store which I'm sure is still on v3.0.0. I've hiden it at the far back of the racks and check on it everyday, kek.

I wouldn't say that,it's been a month since 5.0 was released and it will be about another month until units with 5.0 and the revised soc hit shelves.

<=4.1 switches won't suddenly disappear but the longer you leave it after the first 5.0's are sighted the lower your chances become.

Saying that though over on the firmware thread there are still people picking up 1.0's :D

You know what, you're right. After all, kate did said that the hardmod only requires shorting two pins with a tweezer. It's also confirmed that you won't have to hardmod every coldboot. And since I've been hardmodding the 3ds back then, maybe the firmware version of what I could get when I buy won't be an issue at all.

$300 isn't that hard to come by tho. What do you do for work? Or maybe you're in college?

SSI and other government programs sadly and i don't work because they take away you check fast even if it's 200 a month i would get hit with a large check cut almost not worth it to work

As far as i understand it that only applies to consoles updated to 5.0,it hasn't been confirmed but this is the understood "inconvenience" of being on a console above 4.1 according to the recent Fusee Gelee FAQ.

I don't think there is a rush to buy a switch before the release of cfw to be honest, once the news breaks out that the switch has been blown open then units will start to go pretty quickly :D

I don't think this has been asked before but i wonder if Atmosphere would be able to trick the switch into thinking it was docked and as a result boost handheld frame rates?

the reason it runs slower is for battery life but also due to heat. Dock has a fan to cool the console

Docked does NOT improve frame rate, only resolution.

Overclocking in handheld mode would actually help framerate.
