Since I've never used EmuNAND before, can EmuNAND detect and play games in system memory or do the games need to be in the same memory card as EmuNAND?

On the 3DS with gateway emunand yes thays how it works, but the gateway flashcard had a micro SD too and could load games from there using GW backup loader or the console SD it self if you install games on the console.

There was no way to access GW games on the 3DS other than using their custom private backup loader as far as I know.

However I dont know if later someone could mount the official internal storage and maybe lock the software and let us use its free space, but I dont think that will happen...

Nah. I'll just wait a bit more before buying. Until I see in malls nearby those switches with serials that are reported to have low firmware, I'm holding off.

Thats not how it works. The firmwares you find there will only get higher from here. Best to buy now or very soon to get one with a vulnerable bootrom.

Besides all CFWs requiring it on the 3ds?, It is a waste of space and adds extra steps that can brick your system when setting it up. I had several friends who brick'd their systems with it. For that reason, I stay away from any CFWs requiring emunand. I'll never take that risk. A snow balls chance in hell, is still a chance.
How the hell do you brick setting up emunand? I've literally done it hundreds of time without the slightest issue.

I don't think you know what you're talking about. Before A9LH you had to have an emuNAND, otherwise you wouldn't be able to update past 4.5 or later, 9.2. And if your emuNAND bricked, your real system would still be fine. It was even more dangerous to not use an emuNAND, plus the inconvenience of not being able to update. Also, it isn't the CFW that requires an emuNAND or not. Luma can be used with one or without, and it can be used with menuhax (where you can't update unless it is emuNAND) or B9S (where you can update without emuNAND). CFW is independent of the entrypoint, if that is what you were thinking of.

Firstly, not all CFWs require emuNAND. In fact a majority of the later ones ran with sysNAND.
Secondly, creating emuNAND isn't what would have bricked the system. It was the process of downgrading sysNAND to a lower exploitable version. That was the most dangerous part, other than early a9lh flashing emuNAND to sysNAND.
Both of those won't be done on the switch CFW, meaning the somewhat dangerous (at least when they were first made) parts of 3ds cfw installation won't really be a thing on switch THAT WE KNOW OF. Unless they pwn the fuses, you can't downgrade the sysNAND at all.

Well I have also setup a emunand a few times and 0 problems...

I'm in favour of emunand, do whatever u want on it, forget that there's even a nand in the hardware and if it goes bang just replace the Sd card on the 3ds and install the emunand backup if u made one and it's always fine.

If you even accidently updated not much harm will be done...

Emunand is peace of mind, emunand is love! You can go crazy, fuck around with it, and fuck up your emunand allllll you want, and worse case scenario, you just have to reinstall emunand via SD card. Now sysnand, heh, try and fuck with that too much, and you got a nice brick, if you have no way to inject your backup via something like Priiloader or a9lh.

you do not need an emunand with a bootrom exploit so whats the point of emunand if they are relaseing the boot rom exploit to.
Bootrom doesn't give you the same level of access in 3DS as Switch I believe, there's TrustZone too (I don't know really, but that's my impression). No one ever said emuNAND was not needed.

But if you bootrom exploited you can pwn trustzone, too.

I (like most people here) have hyped myself up for CFW but then got thinking about what I'd actually be able to do with it if (hypothetically) we got it today. I didn't follow the 3DS or Wii U hacking scene until quite some time later, so when I finally used the exploits, I was greeted with a whole bunch of things I could do which devs had developed over time.
So this might sound like a dumb question to some but once Atmosphere is released, what are we expecting to be able to do with it from the get go? I guess the one thing that comes to mind is being able to install the .nro homebrew and launch them directly from the home screen. But besides that, I don't really know what to expect.
