I was expecting a CFW that can exists without the OFW knowing, which will minimize banhammer. Still got my backup ready to go back to OFW before hacking.

I'm mainly expecting a sophisticated CFW and I'm more than willing to wait a bit longer to get it. It's not like my 3.0 Switch is going anywhere and the homebrew scene is only going to get better while I wait to jump in.

All I can say is don't expect much from the 0.7 release (if they're even still doing that). At this point, releasing it will only make people complain more about the lack of new features.

So waiting patiently like adults is "demonstrating low to no interest"? Duly noted, Mike.

Well there is nothing related to Mike.

Hexkyz stated specifically 'Of course, I can only speak for myself but I believe @SciresM and @TuxSH have similar opinions.'

Though Hexkyz could be wrong, I think we shall express our views instead of yelling to each other.;)

What is it with this place and the constant need for drama?

"Potential end users have also been demonstrating low to no interest in this project..."

C'mon now! that is bs, we have been waiting for Atmosphere since January

So waiting patiently like adults is "demonstrating low to no interest"? Duly noted, Mike.

I get where you're coming from, I honestly do, but don't pretend you don't know exactly what I'm talking about.
I thought it was obvious that my commentary was not directed at those who have always supported Atmosphère. Perhaps if I used "Potential *new* end users" instead it would've been clearer, but I'm well aware of the expressive number of people who keep supporting the project even from the it's very beginning.
Those users are one of the two (three if you count Scires and Pokémon :P) pillars that keep the project alive (being the other one our own ambitions and curiosity in exploring the Switch) and if 0.7 is coming out is for them.

What I'm referring to is the influx of people continuously bashing the project for reasons that I honestly can't fully comprehend.
@Y0sh1 just before you're post, @Meepers55 raised a very good point which I'm sure illustrates the reaction a lot of people will have once 0.7 drops. I'm not blaming them, I know there was a lot of drama and misinformation floating around for a good while, but the truth is that Atmosphère was never meant to have a release date in it's traditional sense.
One of the things I've noticed that normally infuriates users is the constant teasing of projects never come to fruition, so when SciresM announced that Atmosphère would be open since it's very beginning I honestly thought that would appease people in general. I mean, you can constantly see the progress on Github, compile builds and test yourself, help with the development, etc.
Instead, people keep joking and complaining about a missed June 15th deadline and insist on this notion that the project is useless without a proper release (which would be nothing but a compiled binary of what's on Github) even though portions of Atmosphère have been used to help other projects grow.
The whole June 15th thing was indeed a target deadline at some point because it would align with when Fusée-Gelée would be made public which, naturally, would make people want a proper usable CFW to play around. I remember SciresM loosing sleep and whatnot to rush the whole thing and give this to people.

As everybody knows, things went south and those plans turned moot. We still kept pushing on trying to work around all that and lots of re-designing ensued.
Meanwhile, a very expressive amount of users either here or in other communities kept mocking the project ("atmosnever", "[insert generic transgender joke here]sphere", etc.). Having a good laugh never hurt, but after a while it just becomes frustrating, so we just decided to put ourselves first and work on a slower yet steady pace. Nonetheless, the project is still public and some of the pending issues for the release even saw external valuable contributions from users we know that understand the project and keep supporting it.

Both SciresM's and my first names are Mike. I believe that was a reference to me.

Should be pretty obvious that the 'expressive' have personal vested interest in the outcome of SX OS and for financial reasons or otherwise, they would rather not it continue its fast downward spiral into irrelevance.
Pacing and set expectations aside, if you don't ignore them and let them get to you, you're giving them exactly what they want.

@_hexkyz_ and @SciresM

A few stray observations from the nonvocal minority, if you would allow me:
  • Your internal resolve to push ahead with such technically demanding work remains applause-worthy
  • This is said particularly in light of your work coming without remuneration or positive feedback from a large portion of the project's current beneficiaries
  • I doubt anyone will truly understand the level of effort / personal sacrifice you've both expended here (although your commit history earlier this year gives a strong indication)
  • That being said, I am optimistic many people do understand and appreciate the dedication and level of professionalism you bring to this scene
  • For the remainder, I wouldn't downplay the utility of wading-in and communicating about the status of the project (twitter, gbatemp, reddit, etc.); even short messages on a weekly basis
  • I conjecture a portion of the negativity is coming from people just feeling ignored or not understanding the complexity of your work in simple terms; words can help here
  • Beyond that - the ability to release something (pretty much anything, as you've seen with your competitors) speaks volumes - and seems to silence everyone but the child-trolls
  • So, keep focused on your minimally-viable product and iterative/agile development
  • That said, I sincerely hope you are both looking after your mental/emotional well-being - and most importantly - having a little fun, as you run this marathon
  • As you keep moving ahead, I hope you remember why you started and I hope it carries you through to the end
Best of luck guys.

Will Atmosphere run without having to "inject a payload" from an external source when cold booting? That is the only game changer for me and if it won't have that then could someone ELI5 the benefits of going Atmosphere vs say, ReiNX?

On old firmwares it will be able to launch atmosphere from the browser, this probably won’t be available at launch though (possible on 4.1.0 and below)

Atmosphere will eventually have warmboot exploit by launching via the browser.
Atmosphere currently has more planned features than most other cfw, and most other cfw use parts of atmosphere as the backbone for their own work. So consider atmosphere the OG cfw that others work off of and is doing most of the work breaking ground for new features
