There are multiple ways to get region free now without needing RxTools or waiting for other CFW authors to add region-free:

1. Yifan Lu's Loader replacement (will work with any CFW that supports decrypted firmware.bin, so that means AuReiNand and regular ReiNand for now, but regular Rei needs an extra step)
2. Hard-patched Home Menu & NS CIAs (prefer option 1 when possible, this is dirty).
3. FMP/RFP/NTR-CFW (you mentioned this, yes, but that doesn't make it any less valid, even if it's annoying).

Except that you can't use NTR with AuReiNand because NTR doesn't have 10.4 firm support.

AuReiNand supports 10.2 FIRM (and hence NTR) just fine. It's not required to use the 10.4 one at all.

Since when? Because the last time I checked regular ReiNand was 10.2 while AuReiNand required using 10.4.

I have been using AuReiNand since the first release and it has since replaced RXTools and CakeFW as my main. The simple reasons, A9LH support, plus better reboot/GBA/DSi support. It's an All-in-One CFW that functions closest to vanilla 3DS, with added features and sysNAND update protection.
