    Yeah, I am.
    Always was, always will be.
    Why?
Probobly because as a child, I didn't get any sort of allowance...
More "Do it or else!" rather than "If you don't you won't get your allowance!" in my house...

Software: most of the stuff I use is freeware but it is usually good at the expense of a fancy gui (stuff like imgburn, video editing apps like avisynth and megui: all professional grade).

Hardware: horses for courses. I do however like to have some service so I take that into account and consequently do not normally end up with the cheapest deal.

In general: if I can pervert something I have or that is readily available to do my bidding instead of forking out for something that does it out of the box (at great expense) I do that which makes me a cheapskate in the eyes of some, thief/pirate in the eyes of others and others see the merit in such things.

Ultimately: money is a factor but it is far from the only one.

Even after all the poll options, I don't see a definition that corresponds to what I do. Of course I buy things cheaper if I can find them. Does that make me cheap? I think not. Does using quality FOSS and freeware make me cheap? No.

Quick example: Using mythTV over Windows media center [sic] edition. Why should I pay for something when there's a good free alternative?

I'm a cheapskate when it comes to purchasing anything related to computers or electronics. I would spend ages to look for something as simple as a monitor cable or a stick of RAM or a USB card reader. But I always would buy the best.

For some other things, I simply don't care. Money is meant to be spent.

Yeah, I want things cheap as long as they're worth it. I'm not spending hours looking for that 2 cts discount.

Nothing wrong with comparing prices of the same item across several stores to find the best deal. Consider a seller/stores reputation too when buying online, but if they're good then I don't see what's wrong with going for the cheaper one. As for the "cheap and nasty" effect it depends what the item is, nothing wrong with buying a giant square notepad block from Poundland, but for electronic items I don't mind paying a little bit more to aim for brand names that I know will last. I take good care of my stuff so it lasts ages anyway and pays for itself. I'm very good at working out what I need though. I won't waste money buying a toaster that sings and dances if all I need is something that makes toast. And economical, I won't throw out my perfectly working toaster just because someone releases one that sings and dances either. It's a waste of a good item.

Even the richest person in the world would buy something for cheaper if it doesn't make difference.

If something I want is somewhere else for lower $$, then I buy it for less $$.

Yes, to the nth degree. If I can dl something, I won't buy it. Hell, I hardly ever buy necessities, if I can help it, and even then only cheap shit.

Fifty cent a lot of money! You can save 50 cent here and save 50 cent somewhere else! Then you can go to the dollar store and buy something nice.

I kinda am, just like if it's something I really really really really really (o rly?) really really want, then I might buy it for a high price.
