Are there any good 3DS USB devices that can back up and restore saves basically the same way the JKSM homebrew app does so that i can edit them? the only devices i know of that can backup and restore saves Are the "Powersave 3DS" (which i have) and the "R4I USB save dongle" but the Powersave encrypts its saves and correct me if i am wrong cause i dont have one but the R4I Dongle does the same so i wouldn't be able to use something like the Animal Crossing Save Editor with either of them , I know just using the JKSM APP is the simplest and cheapest option but honestly i want to find alternate method that doesn't involve going through homebrew because i dont like having homebrew and CFW on my system while it is still getting active updates like the other days 11.8 update plus i think it be easier to just connect my game cart directly to my PC .

I know sorry about that but i just prefer to have a device i can use whenever ,honestly i just am terrified of messing up my console by having CFW and homebrew on it since im terrible with messing around with this stuff having a power save like device feels like it would be safer for what i want to do

The saves are already encrypted. Powersaves decrypts them, then encrypts them after applying the modifications (server-side, so you can't keep them decrypted), then writes them back to the cartridge.

I don't remember how the R4i one works. Not very well, last I recall.

JKSM or similar applications are your best bet. I fail to see what's unsafe about it. You just export the save, then either put your SD card into your computer and copy (don't cut/move) it off (and make a backup copy before modifying it, just in case), or transfer using FTP.
There's at least one new exploit coming that should let you use just homebrew if you really don't want custom firmware, but honestly, it's quite safe. I usually argue that it's safer with CFW as opposed to without it, because you can actually back up your saves, NAND and other things, and it's easier to repair should anything extraordinary happen (albeit this would typically be a rare occurrence).

You can't really mess up the console (it is not possible unless you do some serious sh!t).

Alright then il stick to JKSM thanks a lot for the info i feel more reassured hearing it from you guys i just hear news story every now and then of Nintendo taking action and blocking or bricking consoles and wanted to be as careful as possible or find an alternative to be safe but i guess im overreacting you guys would know better then me im just a causal user of these homebrew application and dont know how they affect my console firmware in the long run and dint want it to set off any red flags to Nintendo when my 3ds connects to the internet.
