Gaming Are PSP charges supposed to suck?

K. So, I bought a PSP without a charger about a few days ago. Fair game. I bought a $4 off eBay.


Well, for some odd reason, when playing the PSP while plugged into the AC adapter, the psp still drains battery.
Slowly, but still drains.


Is this normal for psps? Or is it just that my psp charger sucks?



'Cause I left my psp on one time, with the AC charger plugged in, and set it down. The screen turned off, but I came back a few hours later.
I checked my battery at it was at 22%! Something definately not right.

obviously somethings wrong with the charger and thats what you go through when dealing with ebay if its coming from china chances are its horrible but there is some good stuff on ebay

well my psp took about 15 mnts with a usb charger and that's while i am playing it, i guess there's something wrong with your charger then

Is your battery from Sony too?

If not, sometimes the third party batteries can give false readings > >;

what did you expect when you paid 4 dollars on ebay.( was there shipping? )
get the really fancy doo-dad for 20 bucks that has a usb a thinger at one end, a wall charger and car that adapt to usb
and at the other end it has a psp charger and a usb plug

this is my goto charger for my psp.
oh and the usb stuff is great cuz you unplug that then plug in your ds stuff.

next purchase: 1 wire that does psp/ds/usb

And I wasn't aware that you could charge while connected to USB.
Is it a firmware-related thing? Because I got GEN-B, not M33.

You can still charge using a USB cable in 5.50 GEN-B.

Alright. I think I've identified the culprit.

The thing stops charging while I'm playing a game!
I'll get that flashing orange light in the menu... But when a game starts, it's a no-go.
Stil, when I press the home button while in a game, the battery icon is missing.


I'm running 5.50 GEN B, if anyone has any CONFIRMED FACTS ABOUT IT.

you CANT play games while charging in USB mode. leave to USB mode and make sure you set it to USB CHARGING. unless your USB cable has a power plug as the second cable connected to the USB cable. you have a mini USB and a power plug at one end and the 2.0 USB at the other end

I use 5.50 GEN-B and it charges fine.

You can play games where charging in USB mode. I do it all the time cause I'm too lazy to disconnect my PSP after making some transfers to it lol.

I think we need to clarify "USB charger" bit.

PSP phat USB chargers have two ends, one that inserts to the USB slot of the PSP and one that inserts to the AC charger slot of the PSP. Phats can't be charged using the USB slot of the PSP. Also obviously USB charging is significantly slower than AC charger.

PSP slim and onwards USB chargers can use the USB slot of the PSP to both connect to PC and charge.

Strongly recommend using AC charger.

explain to me why there's no red light while connected to USB when the fact I have a PSP2001? I need to open the USB Mode in order for i to charge.

I got my red GoW PSP 2001 so no need for USB charging

I'm runnin' a phat. So there's no USB chargin' for me.



But I think maybe a connector is wonky.

I was playing one game, and disconnected the AC, and I ended it. The battery was at full charge.

I played another game for a while, and disconnected the AC, ended the game, and it was at 95%


Though when it's at 100% charge, in the menu, the orange light doens't blink. But I'm not sure if it's supposed to not blink.


Would opening it up and checking to see if the connector's un-dusty and such would work?

I received the PSP with 2.71 firmware, to tell you how old it is.


And Prinny - Can I really be the Hero has me mashing the square button like a blasted madman, so maybe that shook the PSP up.

The firmware question was to Skylock....

Trulen - When you're playing with the adapter plugged in the LED will be a constant Orange (no blinking). When it's powered by the battery it'll be a constant green, and once the charge drops to some arbitrary figure around 10 to 15% charge time remaining the green light begins to blink.

This just sounds like a dodgy battery issue. After all it's pretty old.

I tried it on my semi-destroyed PSP 2001 with 5.00M33-6. I'll connect my GoW Red PSP with 5.00 M33-6 in a bit.


Silver PSP 2001 not charging (USB Mode not opened)
Red God of War PSP 2001 charging even not in USB Mode

both are 5.00 M33-6

let me add mine piano black old psp 2000 charge in usb mode and not usb mode

Maybe, my silver psp 2001 was not set to USB charging in the CFW settings (recovery ) as I cant access it because the LCD keeps on turning off everytime i push the d-pad.

What xist said that's the way mine works with the normal battery but with my fake gives bad readings and can't really hold a charge so it's a problem with your battery.
