Are Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games exactly like a graphical roguelike?

I quite like roguelikes like Nethack, ADOM, Gearheads on the PC.

Is PMD similar to these games?

Similar. If you liked any games in the Mysterious Dungeon series (not just pokemon), you will like them.

Other DS roguelikes are the Izuna series and Shiren the Wanderer, which are, IMO, better than PMD.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is a spinoff series.
Its interesting, but gets a bit boring, and after playing any game in the series once, you won't want to replay it.

But, there are loads of quests, so hopefully you won't want to restart.

    I lost my save files....

Oh cool! I will check out the other games too. Just remembered there is Powder for the DS. How do these games compare to that, apart from graphics.

I would highly recommend Shiren the Wanderer. Izuna is alright, but it doesn't have that much depth.
