I wouldn't mind a beefier switch, but I'd need a 4K tv to make use of 4K. I don't plan to buy a new tv until my current one goes out. I'm much more interested in the number of hdmi inputs than 4K as my current tv only has 1 hdmi.

I think you'll be having a hard time finding a decent tv that won't deliver 4K and have multiple HDMI inputs :)

not too interested. I think the biggest tv I could get that would fit in my tv space is 28"-32". I saw one advertised on ebay from a brand I had never heard of. it was 32" with 3 hdmi, but it was still 720p I think for about $130.

Without some kind of shenanigans or fake 4k upscaling gimmick it will simply not happen. No 4K system will be portable with the hardware we have today.

Unless they're making a non-portable option that is. And if you think about it, it's not like they haven't released a switch that doesn't switch already so well... we'll see what they have in mind soon.

I certainly don't expect it to be putting out native 4k in most games (at least, 3d ones). But it should at minimum have 4k output, and ideally HDMI 2.1 output because:

  • Higher res media apps are a freebie as long as the chip supports the media playback (and it should, Nvidia shield tv can do 4k).
  • VRR support is great for people with new TVs. Going into the future this will become more widely available.
  • Some games are extremely light - ports of ancient games, some indies, 2d games.
  • Even in sub-1080p games, having a 4k UI & text looks crisper and better in the game.
  • With a more powerful switch, resolutions north of 1080p can look very good on a 4k TV. 1440p with TAA looks very good in some games on a 4k screen, even if it's not "full 4k" - it's still much better looking than 1080p. Hell, even just native 1080p with a 4k ui looks much better than 900p and a 1080p UI!

I do not expect DLSS support, imo that's a pipe-dream for a mid-gen refresh. It requires your game be implemented in a pretty specific way that Nintendo games themselves probably aren't (they don't seem to be using TAA etc unless it's an Unreal Engine Yoshi game, so the motion vectors may not exist in-engine). I'd love to be surprised on this, but that feels more like a Switch-2 thing, rather than a Switch Pro thing.

People everywhere get way too hung up on a headline like "4k switch" but 4k is just a canvas the developer can paint however they want.

idk because the switch is already $300 and knowing nintendo they will not drop the price so it makes no sense to spend $400-$500 on a switch when you can just buy a PS5 or a Series-X. I'm petty satisfied with what I have 4K isn't a deal breaker to me.

honestly, displayport would be way better, SSAA wouldnt need to be implemented on a geme by game basis (seeing as how you can force it on pc) though with the switch's power i seriously doubt it, as ssaa is essentially running the game at higher res and crushing it down, the other thing they could do though is make a pro dock and have the ai upscaler there

It makes "no sense" to buy a Switch now for $300 when you can pick up PS4s and XB1s for the same or less. Except it being a mobile tablet with battery gives it value that its competitors lack, so they can charge just as much for a far weaker system. If they can improve the handheld experience they can easily target $400, hell that's what the current switch has been scalped for on ebay during pandemic.

I mean this is something like asking why someone would pay 1K+ for a phone when an equally priced computer would be far more powerful.

i fully believe they could do 4k for 300, if they were to go home only

I'm trying to point out if the game library is going to remain the same on both Switch + Pro if you already own a switch it would not be much incentive to update. When the PS4 Pro game out I didn't update my PS4 to the pro because I didn't wanna shell out $400 again when I orginally paid $400 for my PS4. That's why next gen I'm going to sit back and relax I'm 100% sure in 2 or 3 years there will be a PS5 Pro and a Upgraded version of the Series-X

nowaday you don't need that MUCH to push a game (something that'd run on a switch) at upscaled @4k30fps

But stable @1080p60 with better game graphics is def better

Its all about that pixel art in a razor-sharp 4k upscale.

Actually 4K seems more about selling a buzzword than reality. Its become a majority of new TVs and yet there still isn't that much real 4K media.
Should come out of 2012... There's a ton of REAL 4K media.. Unless you're a PS4 pro owner.. :creep:

Hollywood will not pay to render their effects in 4K, and even then you aren't seeing the 4K footage without a UHD bluray, which sell far fewer players than 4K TVs. There's also barely any cable channels, and 4K streaming services end up being as sharp as a 1080p blu-ray. Adoption of 4K TVs has far outstripped media support to an embarassing point. Maybe broadcast can make a comeback once they get their 4K standard in place because cable does not feel like upgrading their tech.

the xbox one s is a fairly cheap and readily available 4k bluray player, you also get the benefit of games

i will stick to lite if new console following switch general model,
i prefer portable smaller console like lite, i skipped this one if that happen, and most likely will route to general model

Everything we know indicates the "Switch Pro" will be Mariko based.
