I'm looking to buy my brother a Wii for his birthday, and was hoping to mod it with a Cyclowiz chip. Are the latest versions of Wii still hackable? I remember there being a big deal with newer Wii versions that weren't compatible with modchips a while back.

Also, what tools are required to mod a Wii? I know that the chip needs to be soldered on, so I have that down. Do I need a special screwdriver to open the thing?

Yes , all are hackable. Cyclowiz won't work on new ones. The newer wii's have to use the D2CKEY (31 wires).

Triwing screwdriver is needed to open the console.

Yes , really 31 wires. Have a look through this thread here http://psx-scene.com/forums/d2ckey/60299-p...-install-2.html

and you can see examples of peoples installs of D2CKEYs.

As for the wiis newer than D2B , yes , that would be the D2C. Buy a brand new wii now and you are pretty much sure to get a D2C and for now have to use the D2CKEY.

Maybe at a later date it will change and we'll get nice relaxing 5-6 wire mods like the earlier wiis , but for now 31 wires

Hopefully the Wlip makers are off adding wires to their product, then you would only have to solder the wires onto the d2ckey and the nice large power points.

Nice 13 wires. Hope they release diagrams soon , I want to see. Just had a quick look around , doesn't seem that expensive. €39 , so only £27 ish.

Not that it matters , if one team can do it with 13 , we'll prob have a load of em arriving soon as all the teams want in on the action , so drive prices down

One of the sites that weren't blocked on the school's network was some file uploading sites. I would upload some games, write down the URL and take it to school one day.

It was easy to bypass some of the restrictions, as one of the admins left a registry key in the administrative shares drive, which allowed me to get around the blocking of some sites.
