Yes, focus on lowering the number of the monsters before attacking the guy.

    Anywhere you think of me.
Boss fights in this game is the best i've had in a while. Their sheer difficulty is just great, i'm always on the edge in a boss fight. Items, especially reviving/healing is quite the necessity. That fight you're talking about i believe is somewhere in the beginning which i think was pretty straight-forward just try to keep everyone alive and knock out the monsters first. Boss fights are long and hard you're gonna enjoy it.

I just spent alot of time grinding on the monsters outside first and then buying new weapons and stuff because I lost to him like 5times before I beat him.

can someone explain the story!? im enjoying it but have no idea whats going on! all i can tell is:

theyre worried about their source of power being gone

all the countries hate each other

l'arc merged with a dragon thing and is paired with the anoying girl

thats about all i can figure out! also, im finding i hardly use magic. unless its a boss battle im just spamming the attack button on l'arc and theyre all levelling up togther anyway...seems a bit lame

Umm? Are you not playing the translated version? The dubbing isn't the best, but its not exactly terrible.

They explain plenty if you pay attention
If you have no idea what's going on, that's ADHD or sheer lack of attention on your part and fault.

ARF isn't the best jrpg on the wii, but it's something to play until Xenoblade gets released.

actually, i dont think its my fault if a story is not explained well, uses confusing jargon thats not defined and rushes into a complex story without background! if you understand it so well why not go ahead and help me out instead of being a douche?

At first it's kind of difficult to keep track of all the info the game throw to you. But you'll catch up with the story later on. Don’t worry and play.
