Not trying to rain on anyone's parade or anything, but I don't think this is going to fly; it's absolutely a breach of copyright and I wouldn't be surprised if the news site posting them were told to take them down in the near future. You could bet that, if a much larger news site like Kotaku or Joystiq did something like that, they'd be in trouble fast. Nintendo offer these cards as a Club Nintendo reward, an incentive for buying games and registering them for points. It's a form of selling (trading) and you're pretty much taking away that incentive by offering them to anyone who wants them for free.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go tell a bunch of 5 year old kids they're stupid for believing in the Easter Bunny.

I'm all for the idea to have a website archiving all these AR Cards for ALL games (not only Kid Icarus). It could be an historical database in few years. I like databases, achives, etc.
A website like Gametdb.com, where users could upload missing cards, or replace them with better quality.
Showing thumbnails of the cards on each game page, and showing better quality when clicking on a thumbnail.

The cards could be sorted by game name, have some descriptions, name of the character displayed on it, front+back scan, etc.

that's just an idea.
Someone willing to create such a website?


We are still discussing it with the staff regarding posting "paid" or "copyrighted" AR pictures here.
It would be bad move if they are sold on shops and you could found them for free.

Cyan, how would you want it to look like?

EDIT: I wonder if we could make sense of the tricolored ar code in the bottom left of each card... maybe check few cards which are different by 1 (like 001 002)

I'd like to, I don't mind crossing the copyright bridge when I get to it, dealing with take-down notices if necessary. I have a background in web development, though my design skills aren't that great, but I could probably whip something up. I don't have any AR cards, though, so if people will commit to contributing then I might give it a go.

Look how Wiitdb is working and have most of covers now, it even get renamed to gametdb to host other consoles now.

You could make one for both 3DS and vita AR Cards.

Cyan, how would you want it to look like?

Currently imagining it very simply (visually simply).

A page with a grid, each cell will contain:

• The slot number (Card ID)
• its picture if you have it else leave it blank
• the card's name,
• Additional info (in a popup only?)
  • rarity
  • given with game, bought or only on conventions
  • back cover version # (if applicable)
  • creator (if card remade in vector graphics by someone else),
  • uploader ?
  • etc.

At the top of the page:

• Console name/picture,
• the game name
• Game Release date
• total number of cards
  
• scan of the back of the cards

(attribute a number if there are different backs, like collector cards, etc.).

Additionally, there could be some gadgets on the game page. For example a little grid which list all have/miss.
like this on the right, but a lot shorter, like 4x4 pixels per games. (imagine the map when you defrag your HDD).


A Main menu could be used to browse or list the available games. (3DS, Kid Icarus, VITA, etc.)
An option to select thumbnail or list view.
sort by card type (characters, weapon, etc.)

system-wise, it will be easy for contributors to contribute if the web use CMS like WP, Wiki, etc.

if they use only 3 colors for their active area, they could create up to 14 348 907 different cards
unless there are some parity check.

Looking at Game-TDB.com, I'd hazard a guess that it's using Joomla with a modified default template. I'm looking at hosting packages now, anyone got any ideas for domain names?

arcarddb.com is free
let other users give other ideas.

The name should keep future evolution in mind.
don't name it with the console's name in it for example.
