Apex Legends surpasses 25 million players in first week

Last week, we saw the sudden release of Apex Legends, Titanfall developer Respawn's take on the battle royale trend. Since then, the free-to-play game has hit a milestone; over 25 million players have tried it out in the short time since it launched. Respawn also noted that the Apex Legends hit a peak concurrent playerbase of 2 million users, an impressive amount for a game that had no pre-release hype or marketing. Even those who aren't playing the game have shown up to watch live gameplay on Twitch, where viewer turnout was nearly double that of Fortnite. Making further comparisons between the two aforementioned titles, Fortnite's first player count was revealed four months after it launched, where Epic's game had 45 million players. Apex Legends is currently available on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4. Have you tried out the game? Do you think it'll ever manage to surpass the success of Fortnite?

Okay, guys. The joke is over. You can now abandon your accounts as was planned from the start... Guys?

But really, this is getting weird now.

One of the most polished and best F2P games ever, right up there with Path of Exile. Now they just need some new maps and new legends ASAP, and it will definitely keep growing.

I don't really want Fortnite kiddies mass migrating to Apex Legends, but OTOH, I'd love to see Epic's flagship title fail after they launched their underhanded storefront based on its success.

Don't worry, EA will be rolling out their own share of underhanded ways to capitalize off the success of this game.

Even if Epic's storefront is complete trash, they are at the very least giving developers who release through it a better cut of sales than every other platform out there.

Maybe, seems like they take a mostly hands-off approach with Respawn right now, and they'd be smart to stay the course if they want greater success.

True, but that's largely irrelevant because of the exclusives nonsense they're trying to pull with some games. Epic knows they can't compete with Steam's feature set, so they're basically trying to force people over to what is clearly a more inferior and extremely barebones launcher-storefront. It's a good deal for developers, but a shitty transition to try to force on customers.

Even Apex Legends has a Steam account tie-in, no reason why the Epic launcher couldn't do that or go more the Uplay route.

Pretty well done game, but the hit detection really needs to be reworked, it's really barebones and the players seems like bullet sponges.

By the way, it may indeed be your opinion, but wishing death to a franchise? Cant both, you know, co-exist since both delivers different play styles? Competition is always good for the players, and fortnite REALLY nedeed another hit game to compete with. Epic will finally get down of their egos and will finally start refining and updating the game with fixes and stuff the player base really wants. That in the end is good, isnt it?

Only long enough for the press to get out. They learned from past events and have started delaying their paywall bullshittery till after game reporting sites have done their reviews.

TTK is good, it's some weapons that need buffed. You might as well try to punch somebody to death rather than pick up a Mozambique shotgun, for instance.

I don't understand the appeal of Fortnite, but I don't necessarily hate it. Like I said, I just disagree with the way Epic has gone about launching their storefront on the heels of Fortnite's success, and a little karma might make them rethink things if we're lucky.

I feel bad for devs that willingly choose to side with a company that slyly buys exclusives that were already up for pre order on one platform.... Their launcher is terrible. Their business ethic is terrible. They're trying to undermine everyone else is one fell swoop in such an underhanded way. They get no respect from me. Same for business.

Also, after playing more of Apex? I can say without a doubt it is my favorite BR game. The specialist gimmick is minor. It may need slight balancing but everything just works

Actually this was to be expected.
Fortnite did its time but Apex Legends is the novelty now.
Besides they're building on the success & improving what's lacking from the other battle royale.

I've seen a little bit of this game and I can see why. It's actually functional, there's no weird gimmicks that were never intended for a BR in the first place (fortnite building), the extra abilities you do get seem reasonably balanced and not just Press R To Win like Overwatch sometimes has, and matches are reasonably fast compared to some other BRs. Being able to revive people is also kinda neat as it encourages you to stay and cheer on your teammates instead of just being thrown out the match when you die.

yeah but how many of them will stay after a month? especially with with EA deliberately releasing games full of bugs to make you keep updating and coming back :creep:
