I have a gba001 with an ags101 screen right now. I installed a 5 level brightness switch and have been thinking about upgrading to the new ips v2 screen. Has anyone upgraded from the ags101 to ips v2? Are you happy with the ips v2 screen?

I've never owned a 101, but I have a 001 with the IPS screen in. The quality is superb. Not sure what difference it would be against the 101 but I'm sure there's plenty of comparisons online.

I own a razor sharp 101 and two ips v2. Pro's and con's - 101 has 8-10hr battery life while I got 6hr30min out of ips v2 when i left a game running from my omega flash cart. 101 has the original resolution which some may prefer while the ips one is four times that and may look a bit worse on some games but look great on others. While my 101 screen is really sharp and crisp and has close to no ghosting, the colors on the ips is way better and I'd go with it if I had to choose. It's a great upgrade but if you have an original 101 screen, I suggest you build a new GBA.

After much more research, I found out that the size of the ips screen is a tad bigger and it’s slightly offcenter (to the right). I’m sticking with the ags101, it has those little scanlines that I’ve been familiar with for the last 30 years.

I just might build a new one, then sell the one that I don’t like as much. I do have an extra mother gba. Just needs a screen. Trying not to spend a whole lot right now though.

Maybe you mean something different, but it shouldn't have scanlines. If it does, the screen potentiometer might not be tuned correctly.

AGS001 VS AGS 101 VS GBM VS NDSL VS IPS V2
This is a really useful comparison, thanks. Interesting that the 101 and DS Lite have a purple tinge to the side walls where the others are browner - I'm guessing that the latter is the most "accurate" as it's closer to the original 001 screen and presumably the IPS is the most accurate relative to the actual RGB values.
I've been enjoying my Micro's screen and this makes me feel pretty good about it, decent colour accuracy but with the retro pixel look.

How visible is the IPSv2 in bright sunlight? I just tested to see if the Micro is playable outdoors in the sun, and the answer is just about, at least in the shade of my head. Could play my puzzle game ok, but some games might be too hard to make out well.

I did. I think it was worth it. The viewing angles, lack of motion blur, and and lack of screen door effect are game changers for me.

Oh damn, I messed up my ribbon cable for my ags101 screen while shell swapping. I just ordered a new ips touch version screen. It’s got touch sensors for the brightness and palette. It was about the same price as a new 101 screen. I didn’t like folding that ribbon cable around to fit on the shell and fear it’ll fail again. The ips screens don’t have that issue.
