I have an old EFA-Linker 256 cart (a real one, with RTC) that I've owned since about 2004(?) ... it's old. It hasn't been used in years, but it still works. I just confirmed, Pokemon Emerald and Leaf still on there and ready to go, as requested by my daughter maybe 10 years ago. Just can't flash anything new to it anymore, because I don't have the client software. Needs to be version 2.62 (last version for EFA's first gen carts).

There is a version here on GBATemp, but when extracted I get a "corrupt header" error and although the .exe will run, it will not detect the cartridge (usb).

Could be a compatibility thing, Windows 10 and all. I was probably still using XP the last time I used this flash cart. But, it'd be a shame to just junk it.

Any help??

Here's the page where the corrupted .rar is:

Thanks that would be appreciated. I went ahead and registered an account there, don't cost nothin' so why not. But no verification email yet. The source of the file on that site is the same as the original source of the file here (how_do_i_do_that), but that doesn't mean their version is also corrupted, so fingers crossed.

I'mma post this in more than one thread, just to make it easier for ppl to find a solution in the future.

What slaphappygamer said here ^ is true; install and load XP using a virtual machine, such as Virtual Box. I followed this guide for it:

I then managed to successfully install the EFA-Linker 2.62 drivers by copying them to a USB and drag-n-drop everything onto the desktop of the XP, then manually installing them by choosing to "Add Hardware" and selecting "Show All Devices", and therein being able to load the drivers provided in the EFA-Linker's drivers folder.

This made XP and Virtual Box accept the connected EFA cart, thus allowing the EFA software to detect the cart and also install the ROM I wanted (Mother 3).

In case anyone is still interested in these carts, I want to share all the EFA Client versions I have archived in my HDD. They are a few, maybe if someone have problems with the last one can try with older ones. Of course, as described by slaphappygamer and ConraDargo, Windows XP on a virtual (or real) machine have to be used, as the EFA drivers are 32 bits only.

By the way, these carts are great for what they are. I still have two of them, working rock solid more than 20 years later. Only flaw is the battery, freshly charged only last a couple of weeks. Could be replaced easily, but there is no real point in doing it.

Thanks for posting how you managed to get it working. I don't really need to get my old EFA cart working again, but it sure does bother me that it doesn't work. Despite the limited capacity, I always liked using it a lot more than the EZ4 I bought to replace it. I solved all those problems with an ED GBAmini last year, which is about perfect in how it works, but I might still follow your instructions there and see if I can get the EFA working again anyway. Just because.
