Why does it need to be an addon?

WinFF is a free non-trial converter that works with FLV and Mp4 just fine.

There is a addon called DownloadHelper it downloads videos from practically every site that hosts videos. You have to convert them yourself though.

It's a front-end for FFMPEG, much easier to use than SUPER.

I use greasemonkey with a youtube script that changes the youtube share this video button to a download button. You still have to convert the videos afterwards though but there are loads of good free programs to do that.

The good thing about greasemonkey is it is one addon with which you can run multiple scripts. I have the youtube download button script, another which removes the tabs bar from the igoogle homepage and one which removes the new google side bar. You can turn the scripts on or off by clicking on the monkey in the bottom right corner. There are loads of scripts available.

If your like me and don't like program installations then just run a portable version of a program that doesn't need an installation. Google "portable video converter"

    okay, can live with that.
i've installed greasemonkey and found a youtube downloading script. i'm more interested in your script though, do you have a link for the one you described?

i got a video converter, so that's no problem anymore....

I'd just like to say that this is natively supported in Chrome, and goes into the extensions
    How to manage your extensions
    scripts aren't only for greasemonkey+firefox

also btw, thanks for sharing that script with me =)
