A lot of advertisements on sites have triggered this pop-up lately and I am so afraid I will click it and get a virus. It has happened to me twice in one day, my friend almost clicked "OK" last night but I know what to do (unplug your internet and then click cancel). I just want to know how many other people have been getting this because its more worse than what it was last year with Antivirus 2008 (Which I fell for).

Here is what it looks like (NOT MY PICTURE):

I know it is triggered by advertisements on the tops of pages because I have no viruses on my computer.

Try downloading Spybot Search and Destroy and running that, could be spyware or adware on your cocmputer.

I do believe that it's some sort of spyware. Either way, you're correct in not pressing 'OK'.

Have you tried running a scan?

I have a virus scan running every night but you are right, I haven't ran a spyware scan in a while.

Maybe I should do that, but I know its triggered by advertisements because a few minutes before I posted this, I got one on myspace and the advertisement on the top was pure white. And it happened right after I clicked the page.

I will run a spyware scan though.

Did you watch porn? My father tried to download porn and ended up with a bunch of these. It really pissed me off taking so long to delete them. All ways go for the higher quality porn sites.

It's a particularly nasty trojan/spyware (smitfraud variant?). I had to remove it manually from a Vista install and it took hours.

The pop-up message will prompt you to download antivirus 2009 (or some such) - Don't. That is the full on trojan.

Easiest way to remove it is to download and run Malware antibytes

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Remember to boot in safe mode as that way less of the trojan is running (yes! some of it runs in safe mode).

The only antivirus I have is Symentec Network Antivirus (strong shit), but I know its browser based. And yes I have looked at porn but I only go to trusted sites that I have known for years, and I don't even watch it that much. And it only happens a couple times every week so I think its browser based. I need to update my virus shit too though.

    Symantec is crap.
Spybot Search and Destroy. Will probably do the job more efficiently.

I've seen that box before too pop up locally inside of Firefox though and I just close it, but also it lies and says it's Norton. I ran it out of curiousity and came back free on the standard test.

Download Spybot Search & Destroy and run a scan, that IS spyware for sure, and it's annoying as hell with it's constant popups.
Also Norton is a pile of dung, use a pirated copy of NOD32 or free version of Avast.

    I thought Avast was free.
I just signed up something on their site with my spam address and got a serial so it runs like an unlimited trial version.

Oh wait, maybe he was saying "(pirated copy of NOD32) or (Avast)" not "pirated copy of (NOD32 or Avast)"

Thanks guys, I'll be looking into some of these utilities. I'm really digging this malwarebytes.org.
