I feel like this could pretty easily win the bounty for homebrew. Something similar to tagmo but for the switch where you keep the amiibo bins on the sd card and restore them to tags

There already exists chips where you can storage your amibo backups, one per chip once. And then you can use it like a regular amibo.

Now if it was possible to make it send the amiibo info to the NFC chip on the device so you don't have to have an external chip that would be awesome.

He's talking about software to write to those tags.

Sure why not. I use TagMo on my phone, it's pretty nice but not everyone has an Android device.
Bonus points if it has an Amiibo manager with icons and info, similar to some apps that exist for managing your Amiibo collection.

The best solution would be if you could make a phone's NFC reader/writer itself spoof an amiibo. No tags required.
I believe someone had already achieved that sometime in the past, but then decided not to release it so everyone probably hated them for a week or something, I dunno.

Had it on the N3ds, have tagmo on phone, Android is actually capable of emulating NFC tags, but last I looked something in android's software blocked something due to security issues.
Nfc host, emulation, whatever... is what the tap to pay apps use. NFC tools pro app has an emulate tag option, but i have not played with it enough to figure out how to make it do an amiibo.
Some time ago on a rooted device using i believe CM amiibo were spoofable? not entirely sure, been a long time.
Good luck on the idea, sounds cool, and hope you get it working.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
