I've heard of something called I(?)Shell or something like that but I'm not sure if it does the thing that I want. I just want the PSP to be able to play freeware games that were made specifically for the PC.

...lolno. irShell doesn't do anything like that. It's just a shell.

The PSP is a completely different architecture than a PC. So it can't run PC software.

And emulating is also out of question, since the PSP isn't powerful enough for that.

The best you can aim to is to play DOS games on it, with DosboxPSP. And even then, a lot of games just work bad/slow. Also no keyboard is a big no-no, as you'll have to create configuration files specifically tailored for every game and things like that.

    Blast.
I have a huge catalog of freeware games I like to play but the problem is that when I'm on the laptop, I often go online and do other things than play them.

The only chance would be a port, and even then it'd have to be written in something like C or C++ that can be ported to ARM, and it would have to not rely on any APIs or libraries that are PC/windows only, it'd have to use it's own libraries and you'd have to port those as well, needing access to their source.

    That's a best-case, too. [IMG]

There are PC games PORTED to PSP. Or via emulator.

ScummVMPSP can play old lucasarts & sierra point and click adventures. Doom (and all kinds of old FPSes) are ported and decently playable. OpenTyrian is a good PC Shmup ported.

And that CaveStory PSP port is fantastic. Cave Story just rocks in general. I HIGHLY suggest checking it out!

EDIT: changed the Scumm name and the company names (thanks guys [IMG])

MIPS, not ARM, just for the record.

You can stream games from your PC to your PSP but there is no point in that as framerate really is crappy. I've never tried it but if you want more go here

That just allows the PSP to be used as an additional monitor....not a way to actually play PC games on the PSP.

There's two. There is also a PSX version but I've never played it.

Yeah, I guess streaming is the best way to do this...
Does PSPDisp support some sort of button configuration? I really want to play Merry Gear Solid on my PSP (it only requires like, 4 action buttons and the directional pad).

    Probably.
If someone can play World of Warcraft then indie games shouldn't be a problem.
