I'm streetpassing with the whole world :)
I got a raspberry PI modelB with spillpass v1.6 on it as streetpas relay, it cycles every 8-10 minutes between 12 known mac's of Nintendo Zones, i get people from USA, till China etc....
(Ow, and yes the few kids i know in town with a 3DS, when they pass my house with there 3DS can streetpass with me :) it's not myself between my 3ds systems)

[EDIT]
When streetpassing outside, when you meet real people, you don't have to be affraid to get an update! it connects to other systems, but not to Internet, unless you configure the internet settings to make connection with your 3DS, you don't need internet to streetpass.
Just check it yourself in the top left corner of your system, when the WiFi switch is on and you are connected to your internet, it says "Internet", when you leave your house and it loses the WiFi signal, it switches to "Streetpass"
Assuming, like you say, you want to go out and meet real people with 3DS systems so you can streetpass, your first question is not needed, as long as you don't configure other WiFi AP's in your 3DS from outside (public WiFi)

HomePass is dumb, it takes any fun out of streetpassing. I can get every country/region/puzzle piece in a few days with HomePass... whats the point of that? Just hack the game to have 99999999 streetpasses and all puzzle pieces and all regions... same difference.

Completely wrong on leaving the house. I dunno about Belgium, but in USA we have a NintendoZone.. its everywhere... like on every corner... if you read any of the posts above you would see that I already said that if you have no Wifi configured your 3DS will connect and download the update when you are out and about the town. Every corner has Nintendo Zone... literally every corner. Every McDonnalds, every Starbucks, every Cellular store, almost every chain retaurant/store has it. So you delete all WiFi settings, turn on Wifi and go outside... 5 minutes later you will have the update.

Even if you delete the nag, you will have to do it again in 5 minutes...

Nintendo Wifi locations, aka every starbucks, or mobile carrier store, or McDonnalds or one of other 100 other chains/stores that have free wifi... 3DS auto connects to those and grabs any updates/news etc etc, its like connecting to a WiFi but it does it automatically even if you have no WiFi set up.
WOAH! screw that. so do these companies cooperate with Nintendo or is it just 'any open Wifi' or what? I don't live in the US but this sounds like terrible idea.

This is really worrying does anyone have any more information about what differentiates a random open wifi network from a 'spot pass'?

I cant believe you guys dont know about this. its been around for years. And yes its a special network, usually a hotspot provided by ATT (major cell network carrier here) that works with Nintendo. They also call it "Nintendo Zone"... but these hostpots are everywhere...

I believe it connect by searching for specific SSIDs from these partners.. so if we can change 3DS (with a cia or some other hack) to search for [email protected]#[email protected]# SSID, then it will never find it. so it wont connect to these...

Here is a quote from Nintendo's site about it - Bring any system in the Nintendo 3DS family to any of over 29,000 locations to receive an automatic and free connection to Wi-Fi.

I don't think this is a problem if you're Streetpassing while running an up-to-date emuNAND. Just stay out of sysNAND. When you need to launch the exploit keep the WiFi switch off and only turn it on after opening the browser. It won't have time to download any updates.

Oh, and if by chance you do accidentally download the update in sysNAND, delete it. Power off, hold L+R+Up+A, then power on. Hit cancel when it asks to update and poof, update data gone.

My concern was that if someone were to change their SSID to match one of these they could easily MITM 3DS web traffic. I mean doing your online banking on a 3DS is probably a shit idea in the first place but the idea that you can trick a system into auto-connecting to a compromised access point makes it infinity worse!

This was done with an Android app to launch the Go! Gateway exploit. It's not difficult to do at all, unfortunately

Pshhhhhhh maybe. Actually, that sounds right
I just had a look and it sets the SSID to attwifi - so that's it, the 3DS is hard-coded to auto-connect to APs with the SSID of attwifi ?!? wtf kind of security is that. This is 2015 Nintendo! please tell me there is at least a setting somewhere to disable this...

Apparently you don't read, since like 3 of us said how easy it is to remove the prompt in sysNAND and you didn't acknowledge it at all. I was responding specifically to the issue of NintendoZone updates, which are easily avoidable by staying in emuNAND when you're out of the house. And if for some reason you need to be Streetpassing with sysNAND, big whoop, delete the update.

It's impossible atm. You have two ways to solve your issue - remove update's nag as it's said before using hotkey trick or learn coding, hacking & make your own CFW where turn off updates functionality. The last one is not worth effort, imho.

It's not about the 99999999 and all puzzle pieces...
In Belgium we have like 12 Nintendo hotspots in the country and 1 in my province, that's miles away from me, so you can say, i have like 0 Nintendo hotspots around me.
So a streetpass relay is the only descent option to get to meet people.

Aparently you do not read.. I did adress it.. and im adressing it again (below)

But... It doesn't force-update... It just prompts... And we've established that the prompt is easily removable...

Yes, that is true... however once you think about it... you will get the prompt... delete it... 5 minutes later when you come across another NitnendoZone/Spotpass location you will get it again.. over and over again.... idea of deleting it multiple times a day is not fun to me...

Then just wait until you get home. It will only nag you once per power cycle. It's when you pull it out of sleep for an extended time or power it off and then on that it asks to update

or you know, people could do what they like without people moaning at them because they aren't doing it how they would.....if people want to use homepass enjoy, if people think homepass isnt good for them, dont use it

nah, discord is also a shithole. discord is good only if you have your own community with your own rules. or if you re lucky to find some groups that arent shitholes.

as about forums, when i recently revisited some old forums i used to be regular and seeing how immature most members still are i was like "Yeap. Nothing of value has been lost.". Unfortunately it's the good, comfy forums that ended up dead or shut down, especially because of internet centralization.

    It's a genuinely great manga.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
too bad it never got an anime adaption, even in the form of OVA since a tv series would be too censored for the manga's material.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
    and yeah, great manga.
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
no idea why it would be censored tbh, it has nothing to explicit
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
compared to most midnight anime that air in japan
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
we talk about same japanese tv that censors shit like teenage characters smoking
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
I'd rather they censor smoking than cleavage like they do in the west.
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
Smoking is bad for your health, boobs are good

actually anime have also toned down fanservice a lot at the last 2 decades. when was the last time you saw nipples in anime that isnt hentai?
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
in quite a few, once the uncensored version releases
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
also seeing smoking at media wont make me want to smoke
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
even at "uncensored" home releases they still show no nipples with few, rare exceptions

It makes it seem cool, that's why smoking
