hi. i want to format my ps4 b/c it's crashing alot lately, but i don't want to lose all my saves. i understand if i format or reinitialize i will lose everything. i know you can backup saves with the payload but if my "user1" account gets deleted then it will be useless. is there any way to backup or clean out everything without losing my saves?

edit: i am on 4.55 ps4 pro

edit2: confirmed. you can use backup/restore fuction to save savadata and user but you lose trophies. you can backup trophies by FTPing and copying "/user/home/********/trophy/" directory. i wasn't really able to test the trophies b/c i backed the wrong directory at first but tried it with a new game after restore. also fpkged games get saved too, but i recommend you just delete all fpkg games and reinstall after you restore. (i deleted all my fpkg games except 1 to test). next i am going to try a full restore (recovery install)

edit3: more testing. to completely backup trophies you need to backup
"/user/home/********/trophy/" and "/user/trophy/" directories

edit4: recovery install then restore works too for backup/restore (make sure you have the right PUP. there are NO confirmations when you restore FW from safe mode)

I don't recall the exact menu name but on Settings -> System -> Backup Up and Restore you have the option to save the user data (unchecking applications data) to a USB storage unit.

One caveat is you need access to PSN to save "trophies", according to Sony documentation they aren't saved with the system backup. I didn't tried myself but maybe they are accessible via FTP.
