One that instantly comes to mind is "Rhapsody: A musical Adventure". If its a love story you want, this is the game.

But, you are asking for a great story, and personally don't know how great it is, because I haven't played more than one hour, but its the closest I can think of that is a love story. RPGfan gave the story alone 91%/100%, and they only review RPGs so that might say something positive for the story.

Let me think a minute...
FFIV is definitely along the lines of what you're looking for...
Disgaea DS, though it's a strategy rpg has a quirky "love" story going on...hard to explain to someone who's never played it.
Uhm...let's see....
I can't think of anymore that have love stories but for just plain great storylines try:
Chrono Trigger DS
Dragon Quest IV DS
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
The World Ends With You

For more fun quirky or interesting storylines that aren't "epic":
Final Fantasy Tactics A2
Magical Starsign
Etrian Odyssey I/II
Rune Factory 1/2
Final Fantasy III DS
Rondo of Swords

also, since when is there a FF4 for the psx?
never heard of FF4 crisis core either.

anyway, soma bringer has somewhat of a love story(tough it doesn't really get far, and altough it has a happy ending the love part doesn't)

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
Expected US release on DS = 02/17/09
Already available in Japanese.
I have played it on SNES.
You will get to choose between 3 very different brides on DS.
Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior are my favorite RPGs, this has my favorite love story.
DQVIII on PS2 is the best RPG evar!

Final Fantasy IV fits the bill just right. Dragon Quest V is another great call, it's coming out soon in february.

EDIT: Not good, GREAT.

love stories on a ds are never that "great" and it does not develop well. most of the time is just thrown in there. my fave rpg with a great love story has always been Final Fantasy X thought its not for the DS T.T sorry. Final Fantasy IV is good but the love story is not great for me at all.

ahh i can't believe FFVIII slipped my mind~~~~~ i love that game. i still have it in like mint condition *o*

back on topic. try ff4. there are not many good games on the ds with a decent love story in it. most are cheesy and not well thought of.
