I have recently softmodded my Wii to run backups of games and have been reading many guides and try to make sense of everything.
I have read a lot about preloader and am not sure whether or not i should figure out how to install or just leave me Wii as is.
I have the Wii on 4.0U and it is able to successfully run the backups I have tried (Rock Band 2).
So my question is: Is there any reason for me to attempt to install Preloader?
I am worried about the possibility of bricking my Wii.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Preloader will help you with using hacks for the system menu, such as moving the disc channel, preventing updates from trying to get in, or copying game saves that normally aren't able to be copied. These are just some of the hacks you can do. There are many more.

It will also help you recover from some types of bricks, like banner bricks caused by bad wads. (It has saved me from this a few times during my experimental wad creation stage. lol) It is more handy than bootmii for brick recovery when it comes to wii's with newer boot1's.

But, like any program that writes to the wii's flash, there is a risk of a brick. If you don't want to risk it, then don't install it. I will say though that I and many others have tested it and found it to be safe, so you should be fine, but no homebrew will give you a warranty.

Is there anything that is completely mandatory for me to have installed/uninstalled on the wii before trying to install it?
There are so many different types of cIOS and IOS and it is kind of confusing.
Or would it work just fine on a 4.0U Wii if I just tried to install it.

It should be able to install on its own without anything other than a standard homebrew channel setup. On 4.0 I know it patches your IOS60 for fakesigning if it's now done already. (At least I think it's fakesigning. It calls it patching for ES_DIVerfiy on the wiibrew page.)

Either way, it should install on its own without any special setup.

No no no..... Preloader patches IOS 60 not for trucha-bugging. It is for patching ES_Verify functions so that Preloader and System MEnu will work in harmony

"Failed to get NAND, current IOS 36 has fakesigning fixed"
    What now?

Check the Preloader Guide please. And please search the error next time. It's been addressed thousands of times before

    Oh, really?

What about this? It was on the "What you need" section:
So, yea, I don't see why you can't see em. Prolly because you just want everything there, in any case, this is noted, and shall be addressed as soon as possible (Prior to the total makeover of the guide I hope)

Thank you. I must have read it over a hundred times. I never caught that part. Sorry for all the confusion.
I did end up getting it to work. Thank you all for everything.
