Hacking Any 'real' dangers with using fake chargers?

I recently lost mine, and had to buy a new one. Can't tell if the one I bought was original or not, but I'm guessing it's fake because 1) packaging looks iffy, and 2) I'm in he Philippines (where fakes are everywhere). So does anyone have any experience with using imitation chargers? Are the 'dangers' I see on the internet more to scare buyers away from buying cheaper products than warning us about real danger to damaging the DS lite unit? Thanks

Never use a fake charger,because fake chargers are made cheap and usually the parts in it are second-hand or of bad quality.
