Hacking Any "R4i Gold PLUS Deluxe Edition" Users?

Hi guys, i just received my flash card and,
i was wondering if there was other 'R4i Gold Plus Deluxe Edition' users
who could answer my questions before i go on and
update my Flash Card using the firmware burner it came with

now i tried to look on youtube but,
im not really understanding fully as the videos i'Ve found
are talked on by an asian guy and i cant really understand his
english speaking correctly... :/

So questions are:

1) when updating my R4i Gold Plus card using the firmware burner,
do i need to remove my .NDS roms from my microSDHC card?
or it doesnt matter since they wont get erased?
