How the heck do you run from a battle?

    Hold L+R to run

You need to level Rosa up.

The game is no cake walk. It will take patience, a bit of grinding, and a large inventory of tents!

Cecil died in battle and I made it back to an Inn, but now Rydia is stuck at the front of the party (it shows her when I walk around and displays her thoughts when I bring up the menu). I've tried to fix this with the Party menu but I can't figure out how. Any help?

I don't have my DS on me right now to confirm, but one of the buttons changes who's in front while you're on the map. iirc, it's either "Y" or "Select". Try them while you're walking around, and it should switch who's leading the party. This has no actual effect on battle though.

[Edit] It's "Y". If you press the "Y" button while walking around, you change the lead party character.

@skagamer: Hold down the "R" shoulder button to run from battle.

Is this played the same way as FF2(US)? Or is it changed enough to make it feel like a "new game" (with changed controls/fighting system, to "update" it? or is it purely a graphics update?).

I love me some FF2(US), and i can't wait to play this heh. (tonight!)

I wouldn't say it's changed enough from the SNES version to feel like a completely "new game". Some things will still be familiar, like some battle mechanics, enemies, and of course the story.

But it definitely has been changed enough to be worth playing. It's not simply a graphics update.

I really don't think you'll be disappointed WildWon.

I've just defeated the second form of Scarmiglione and if anyone need help, i post the strategy i used, because the first i fought him i died.

it's pretty simple: Use a Silk Web on him, and a hermes Sandal on Palom. With Cecil defend all the time, with Tellah and Porom heal when needed. Using buff + Fira will cause about 1800-2000 damage to the boss. 3-4 turns and he will be history.

How come the decant ability isn't kicking in? I've attached auto-potion to Rydia but she never auto-potions herself? [IMG]

Thanks for the reply guys. I have made do without the option to run and am currently at the Octo-thingy...this game is freakin' intense. Most RPGs don't make me feel like I have to plan out every little minute detail of a battle, but this game certainly does.

Never actually tried to use this one, but I would imagine it needs to be in your active ability list to work.

That's one of the trade-offs of the augments. You have to use up a slot on your battle ability menu for them to work. Same thing with better augments you'll get later in the game.

Just as a general tip, you should really hold on to your crappy augments, and use them on team members that are going to leave your party (Auto-Potion definitely qualifies as a crappy augment).

Silly me didn't have it in the command list [IMG]

    Ref. Bold part.
    So Edward for example?
But had I not used it on Rydia it would have just stayed in the Key items right?
Is there also a specific reason why one should give them to the leaving and NEVER coming back characters, which is Tellah, Twins, Yang and Edward if they are going by the original story?

    Thanks for your advice [IMG]

    Warning: Spoilers inside!

Yah this game if one thing with the challenge is that it's a real cockpunching nightmare to anyone who has played any of the previous versions including the japanese translated hard type.

I've NEVER had to level up to even get to the cave of mist, hell never have period until I slept the night at Kaipo. I've been seeing some heinous poundings, and that lame octopus even got me with lv 12-14 players (at 15-13 I was ok.) I'm kind of split on them making it just that damn hard as one of my guiltly pleasures with it was even on the harder ones I didn't have to grind levels at a dragon quest type pace... but on the other side I'm getting more into it due to that. :|

Yes, it stays in key items as long as you want it to. It even carries over to a new game +.
