Hacking Any point in buying a 2nd Switch if you can't find a 3.0 device?

So I currently have a Switch that's on 3.01 (thanks to that Mario Odyssey cart). I've been around many retail stores today and checked over a dozen serials, and couldn't find anything that would suggest I will get a 3.0 console. I've almost given up on ever finding one so I'm now wondering what the next course of action should be.

Do I buy another Switch anyway and then sit on it while we wait for an exploit on a higher firmware? Considering the fact that if I don't buy one now, there's a chance that the earliest firmware on the retail stock in the future could all be 4.0 and beyond.

Find a Splatoon 2 bundle online with the neon joy-cons. Everything else will probably have 3.01 or higher. I think even the Mario Odyssey bundles come with 3.0.1.

eBay has a lot of 3.0 and lower systems. Hell the ones being sold as just the tablet are more then likely on 3.0 or lower

3.0.1 is exploitable in software. Don't update and wait. No second switch is needed?

If you want to play games, then yea maybe get a new one on 3.0.1 and update the current one as you like. Or wait for a mod-chip and don't care at all about the firmware.

3.0.1is the same as 4.1.0 in terms of hacking. They'll get hacks at the same time

Aye, pretty much this. I bought one that was marked as new and tablet only without any extra information and lucked out with a 2.3.0 system. You're taking a risk, since if it's marked as 3.0.0 or below, the seller knows they can charge more lol, but it can work out.

I've seen a few "tablet only" auctions on eBay, but I can't help but be paranoid about receiving a faulty unit in some way. I mean, why would someone be selling the tablet on its own in the first place?

If you wanted a second cradle and pair of joycons+accessories, it's cheaper than dropping 160 or so on them. buy switch at 300 (or used for slightly lower), sell at 200-250. You'll have essentially bought a joycon and cradle for 50-100 bucks.

Ah, makes sense.

As for the suggestion to wait patiently with my 3.01 console, the reason I'm leaning towards a 2nd device is because first of all, I'll have my Nintendo account on my current "main" one, which I'll tend to use for multiplayer (especially with their subscription service). Secondly, there's the thought of buying the upcoming titles such as Metroid Prime, Smash Bros, etc, which will surely require a firmware update. And finally, (and this one bugs me lol) I purchased Sonic Mania from the eShop but archived the game (basically to see what "archiving" meant. Turns out it simply means "to delete"). Now that the game isnt on the device, I need to do a firmware update to redownload the game from the eShop. :(
Also, I can't currently use the eShop to buy any more games right now. Rocket League is something I really want, especially as the eShop version is half the price of the cart for some reason.

If you get a used Switch now, it has a 99.9% chance that it's got a vulnerable boot ROM.
If you wait several months and get one, the chances are substantially lower.
Nintendo is bringing a new revision on the market which patched it.

Source is from SciresM, or one of the ReSwitched or w/e they're called.
As well as newsposts on Temp.

Do a cart update to 4.1.0. you can still access online stuff, and it will get hacks at the same time as 3.0.1

Damn it I'm thinking to buy a Switch today, they are on promotion here for 250eur normal price is 330eur.

I'm thinking all of them are probably below FW 3.x because they just don't sell some are probably in the store since day one...

But I wonder if I buy like Zelda for testing purposes on the console for defects if the console comes at a very low FW won't it ask me to update to 5.0????

4.1.0 is exploitable, don't waste your money and don't update.
Yeah but I'm asking a question...

If I buy the switch and it comes at a very low FW and I buy a physical Zelda game and would ask me to update, does the update comes in the game cartridge or would I totally need to connect to the internet and download the latest FW5.0?????

I don't know, I wouldn't risk it

I don't own a Switch yet so I need to know an answer ;).

I need a game for testing purposes since my friend bought a switch and after 2 days it was broken making a huge high pitch noise...

So I needed a game to play at least for a month before I put the switch OFF for as long as it take to get hacked.

When I bought my 3DS I left it offline for like 2 years until gateway arrived :) and still have the console working with emunand.

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF I BUY A SWITCH WITH LOW FW AND A PHYSYCAL ZELDA GAME IF IT NEEDS A UPDATE DOES IT BRING ON THE GAME CARTRIDGE OR WOULD I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THE CRAP FW 5.0??

PS:
its in promotion now here for 250eur. 80eur less than the normal price.
Some guy in ebay was selling low firmware switch consoles at retail plus 50 bucks.
Most likely all consoles here are below 3.0 because they don't sell some might even be there since day one and it's 250eur today in promotion.
