Well, my friend's and my own birthdays are coming up (May 2nd and April 29th) and I was gonna get something for him. He broke his laptop so I was thinking of getting him a new one.

I need a laptop with good specs and cheap =]

Try the Asus EEE PC.. it's got an RRP of $500 AUD, and has all the features you could possibly need. Plus it's an ultraportable, under 1kg! Great for students, I'm buying one for my sister soon now that she's started uni.

EDIT: Forgot to provide a link. http://eeepc.asus.com/global/

Or you could just find a new, real laptop on sale for a *little* more (or the same, depending on sale), and get the huge screen, more space, more ram, more power.

Yes, or No, depends what you mean by games. For example, it plays Age of Empires. Doing your own research is the key right here

Ah sorry you want a cheap one...missed that sentence when i first read what you wrote. So I suggest that you check www.zepto.com as they have some nice laptops and they let you customizable a little on them. If you want it to be able to play some of the newer games then go with a 8700(8600 is still good).
