Elite has been ported to the DS in homebrew form:
http://code.google.com/p/ds-elite/

If you are after complexity I suggest some of the roguelikes including my favourite in POWDER.
http://www.zincland.com/powder/index.php?pagename=about

There are also a couple of GBA games and in homebrew like http://filetrip.net/f5226-Trade-Winds.html and commercial offerings in Sea Trader - Rise of Taipan. Elite is also on the GBA in several forms from the same author as the DS one:
http://sites.google.com/site/gbaremakes/home/games/elitetnk

There are some other games with growing/trading/crafting systems approaching complex (looking at the likes of harverst moon, rune factory and animal crossing) but nothing major and would take serious effort to fail at/are more grind than anything else.

After this we are back in your typical RPG buying, grinding, selling sort of thing. This being said my knowledge of roms past about 3000 leaves a lot to be desired so there might be something in there.

Edit: You might also like some of the Anno series like Anno 1701: Dawn of Discovery and although trade plays a minor role Civilization Revolution does have similar gameplay ideas as a game progresses.

WOW, thanks for your game list. Elite and Sea Trade is look like the game I look for.

POWDER is an interesting game, I have good time with Rogue Like game such as Net Hack.

DS gameplay is lack of complexity .

Nice! Was about to make a thread asking for "pirate" games, and that TradeWinds game seems to be something as to what i was looking for.. i guess it's the only on the DS with a Pirate them anyway.

It seems there was at least one game that might do in the late roms
The Guild DS (The_Guild_EUR_MULTi3_NDS-iND) being a trade simulator and probably about as good as you will get for your request on the DS.

The Dark Spire might be worth a look although that is definitely in traditional RPG territory.

It is nowhere near what was called for but as long as we are heading down this path Lone Wolf DS:
http://www.projectaon.org/staff/frederic/index.php

I rarely venture beyond POWDER when roguelikes are what is called for but I did quite enjoy Izuna - Legend of the Unemployed Ninja for a while.

I expect most good memories I have of this are from lack of RPGs (the first few hundred games/years of the DS had few and those were not so good) but Contact was not bad.

There have also been a few Japanese games along the lines of what you want but to my knowledge none have been translated and I can not even recall names at this point in time.

@Njrg I would have to agree with tomrev- there are difficult games but few with anything deep/allowing nuance.

After I saw the demo video, Lone Wolf is the Multi choice Novel Book with RPG element. I have good days with similar games like this. I can't belive that developers of this homebrew game can program great graphics like that.

Guild , yes , it is another game that look like what I look for.

Dark Spire is a game that I plan to play after I clear Etrain Odyssey. Both is look like similar gameplay.

Izuna is a rouge like DS game that I expected for deep gameplay. I played Izuna 2 but I didn't go deep than the first boss. I thought that success is depend on main weapons drop too much. I feel it lack of challenge. There is a long run rogue like series - Fuurai no Shiren / english version - Mystery Dungeon - Shiren the Wanderer. Did you try this game?

Contact?, how could I missed out on this game.

Tradewinds is a homebrew game (the commercial game equivalent was Sea Trader- Rise of Taipan) - when I was posting about it though for a GBAtemp recommends homebrew I tried for a good half hour to track a working site or something for it but it was released for a competition it seems and never really taken further than that.
Scanning through the various homebrew available though it seems you might be in luck: http://www.pdroms.de/files/2223/ , it might not be quite as refined and indeed I had not heard of it before 5 minutes ago so I have no idea how it plays.

On the subject of homebrew and rapidly going off topic:
http://filetrip.net/f7107-Chaos--The-Battl...izards-3-0.html Port of the spectrum classic.
http://filetrip.net/f1940-OpenTTD-DS-Alpha-6.html
http://filetrip.net/f6999-DiceWars.html (might be a different/better version) out there.

I'm not talking about complexity as in game difficulty. I'm talking about complexity as in the DS being home to many games with "types" of gameplay never seen on any system before.

Ever played Knights in the Nitemare?
How about Treasure World? No? Didn't think so.
Scribblenauts? Get the point?

Where is this "DS is lack of complexity" actually coming from? I don't remember PSP ever offering something that was truely unique outside of Patapon. And there's not much to be found on DS's little sister, the Wii, either.

If there's a lack of anything on the DS, then every other system is lacking more of the same thing. The DS has as much diversity as a PC when it comes to games.

Ok, I know your point and thanks for additional interesting game list. My statement isn't exactly specific the meaning. I mean number of DS games that have high complexity. Before FAST6191 suggest the interesting titles, I played many DS games but I found that those game is lack of complexity, many popular titles is fun but still not complex enough for my expectation.

We seem to be debating a different thing then Njrg- I would fully agree that there are many interesting genres and play methods being explored on the DS (my favourite example in the hyena audiobook player: http://www.projectaon.org/staff/jens/ ). The point I was heading towards and it seems tomrev was too was that the there is little in the way of large amounts of things to consider (even better able to ignore for the most part but the rewards/payoff of working it in are great) in DS games.
At present I do not think anyone has truly managed this in anything but there are approximations/steps in the right direction and most of those appear on the PC and usually in the form of a real time or turn based strategy* or management and trading sim (elite usually being the game everyone sets out to be here) and occasionally RPGs. I dare say pokemon and the various clones of it owe a good chunk of their respective fanbases to such a feature (although they usually lose me by not having truly random enemies).

*games like the total war series, heroes of might and magic, civilisation, settlers, the anno series or even something like Savage: The Battle for Newerth.

Believe me when I say I would love someone to demonstrate otherwise in the case of the DS (or any system really).

It also occurs to me that I should perhaps mention the collectible card games that appear in electronic form although they always seem to be a crude approximation of the real thing. http://bodom.palib.info/arcomage099/arcomage.rar is pretty good though.
