Hey everyone, finally got my laptop, and am going to install some antivirus/antispyware software on it. I've been partial to AVG software for a long time, and was thinking of purchasing the retail version (Internet Security which I believe is the antivirus/antispyware in one, correct me if I'm wrong). I was wondering if anyone else had any reccomendations for what I should get? I'm avoiding anything with the name "Macafee" and "Symantic" attached to it. Anyone have any luck with free software (besides AVG free)? Let me know what you think!

Ha... forgot to mention.. Windows Vista Ultimate (32bit).

For antivirus, a good free alternative is avast! antivirus. Kapersky antivirus if you want a retail solution.

For antispyware, try out spybot or AVG Antispyware

    NOD32 anti-virus
    Fastest Scan
    Lowest memory Footprint
    Highest Detection rate

give it a try theres 30 day free trial, so far this is the best anti-virus i have used because it doesnt slow my pc like crazy

as for anti-spyware I use spybot and ad-aware (free version).

For spyware, I use the 3 Amigos:

    Ad-Aware
    Spybot search & destroy
    Spywareblaster

LOL Avast better because it will run in dos if you want it to ..You can set it so it can run soon as your cpu boot...It will run before it hit the log on screen .. [IMG] [IMG] I didn't come to this forum to debate lol

So I'm getting a lot of support for Avast, thinking that it is only Antivirus though. No clear winners for anti-spyware though. Anyone else offering any ideas?

use a combo of spybot - seach and destroy and ad-aware. they usually together clean most if not all of your spyware

yeah i know but i fear its getting bloated for every release the original nod32 was popular for the PC gaming crowd and its superb protection (i think they are no.1 since 2000 in virus bulletin)
