Hey guys, I wanted to ask if I could buy the "R4 SDHC 2018" to play GBA & DS Games on my 2ds xl or do I have to buy the pricey "Supercard DSTwo" for it.
On other threads they said the GBA emulation on R4 would be crappy, but is that still the case on the New 2ds/3ds ?
Also I cant put CFW on it since I dont have a second 2ds and am on Firmware 11.4

I'd suggest getting a card that comes with ntrboothax on it but I'm not sure if you can reflash it to play ds games after installing boot9strap with it
Or just get a normal flashcard and flash ntrboot on it yourself? You can always restore it back to how it was if you backup the card before you flash ntrboot over it...

To my knowledge an R4 won't play GBA games as even on an original DS the R4 couldn't be accessed in GBA Mode, which meant it wouldn't have a way of reading the game past the loading screen (if it got that far).

However, what should work for sure is using the R4 to put CFW on and make GBA VCs.

Don't buy those dodgy flashcards (if it's got "2018" in the name as of now, I guarantee it's dodgy crap), and don't spend tons of money on something you don't need (DSTWO, Gateway, Stargate, etc).
Get this, as previously mentioned: https://www.nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=575
Then follow the guide at https://3ds.guide/flashing-ntrboot-(3ds-single-system as previously mentioned.
Then inject the GBA games because it's better overall: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-ultimate-gba-vc-injector-for-3ds.438057/
If you really want to use an emulator (which should run okay since you're on a system with extended memory), there are two (gpSP needs to be built but there's a pre-built one available - this isn't my download link; it's from 3dbrew.org):
gpSP: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sxb7x34u58g4zo2/3ds.3dsx?dl=0
mGBA: https://github.com/mgba-emu/mgba/releases/latest (choose the 3DS one)

Next time, search for this sort of stuff. The info is everywhere.

asdolo's NSUI injects GBA games a lot better and there's no need to patch the roms anymore, and if I can I'll link in his reddit post to the download here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hktn4rtemgid0gk/Release_beta26.zip?dl=0

Actually, you can play GBA games on a R4i card! It's really glitchy as hell though with the audio. Frame rate is good. Resolution sucks. I don't personally recommend it.

Back when I didn't have a CFW 3DS, I would have loved this. Hell, I looked for it so hard. The only thing I looked harder for were AR cheats to unlock the GBA-slot doors in Megaman ZX.

Now that it's moot I feel empty inside.

Look on the bright side. Had you played it then, your enjoyment would have been tainted with that emulator's popping and scratchy noises. Maybe enough to throw your 3DS across the room with pure unfiltered rage subjecting yours ears to the equivalent of randomly stubbing your toe walking about a cramp furniture store. Or like strolling about in public on a fine, sunshiny day with everything going fine, until some random hobo passes by, give you a non-fatal shank to your spleen, and then nonchalantly walks away without second glance. All of this happens before you had the chance to get back up holding your bloody sides.

It's a good thing that you didn't discover it. All this means from now on is you gotta game MOAR and HARDER to make up for lost time. :sp:
