I've always used a hdd that plugs into the wall for power.

I've always powered the drive off the Wii. Old western digital blue 2.5" hard drives that I took out of laptops that I upgraded, in a generic white caddy that came with a Y cable. I don't always even bother plugging the second port in.

I wouldn't try to run a 3.5" hard drive off usb power though.

I’ll definitely do this but what’s the problem with using the wii to power it? And what’s a good chord to get?
Sometimes, a drive needs slighty more power than others, which a single USB port in Wii can't provide. It could also happen in PC front USB port.

Is it a rare case? Not really. One of my previous HDD was like that. My friends' HDD that he is hooking into his Wii is like that(he uses Y-cable). and there have been dozens of people having the same problems- which is why we always recommend Y-cables.

basically, Any kind of Y-cables will work. If you can get them in your area by offline, use that. If you need to order one, order it. It doesn't cost a lot anyways, It's just a single cable.

If you don't think Wii reliable enough to power your HDD, You can power them externally like the guy above said. Some USB hubs can be powered with additional adapter, you could try that but they can go a bit pricey.

Nah i use two WD elements from 1Tb and never have problems with power from the one usb chord
Well, your hardware is not identical to his ;)

His Wii might have problems in USB port or power supply that ended up providing low current. his HDDs could've gone faulty(ofc It's not the case here since it works with other Wii). people prefer Y-cable because you never know when it will be the issue.

Well, those would already be very specific problems. ;)

Knowing that on a fully functional Wii that HDD model is fully functional with the standard cable, confirms that the problem is due to other things, and then he can start looking for other issues.

I presume, your HDD is formatted with FAT32 and has only one Partition on it ?
The GameCube Games are in single Folder per Game with the Game ID and named "game.iso" ?

(Should be, otherwise NINTENDONT would not work...:D)

In USBLoader GX,please check under
Settings - Hard Drive Settings -> Game/Install Partiton <your HDD>

and

Settings - Features -> use the Option "Reset Game Header Cache" one Time please.

Good Luck.
Thank you.:)

I had the folder set up like that but it wasn’t working so I removed it from the folder changed the iso name back and then it showed up in Nintendont but not USB loader
