"Fuck You!" sounds great to me... I actually wish they'd translate that directly with official voice over work, but won't ever happen.... unfortunately...

Also I need some DBZ nerd help: Raditz has three specials. Double Sunday, Saturday Crush, and one more written as "Kutabare!". "Kutabare!" means "Fuck you!" - in Japanese, it's one of the harshest things you can say to a person; "Fuck you!" doesn't do it justice lol. He even shouts it during the attack.

I've translated the move as-is but having a heart I had to comedically make it "FACK you!!" in the Command List.
All he does is shoot a quick energy beam.
Are you guys OK with your game showing a nice "Fuck You!" onscreen while playing?
For now, I've just changed it to "Get Lost!"
Or should I change it entirely and rename an attack?

???? usually just means "Drop dead", "Go die somewhere", or "Go to hell".
The vulgar way is the big F bomb, but in this case, it being Dragonball Z and Raditz, it probably means "Drop dead" or "Die!".

Actually, if I recall correctly, the phrase "Drop dead" was used in Raditz phrases in the Tenkaichi games. I'm not 100% positive, I'd have to pop mine in and check, but I'm sure the Japanese is along those lines. I highly doubt they'd drop the big F bomb.

DBZ in Japan is definitely a little less kiddy than the Americanized version of the series. Also, by a little, I mean a lot. If you want to keep it true to the translation, by all means, make it "Fuck you!"

I doubt anybody would be offended. If you are, either suck it up, or don't use the wonderful translation. No skin off my back or anybody else's for that matter.

Yeah, it was definitely a lot of work for them to child proofing DBZ.

Well that`s the thing. That particular phrase doesn`t have one set meaning. It can mean the f-bomb, but it can also mean "go to hell", " go die" and the like.

And no translator worth their salt would put something in just because it "sounds cooler".

I've never studied any Japanese, so I wasn't aware. In that case, it probably most likely means "Go Die" or something to that effect rather than the exact, direct translation to "Fuck you."

So, Kosheh, there will be no more any translation of the Story Mode in your patch?

I too was wondering this.

Also, kosheh: go ahead and use "fuck you". Not like any kiddies are going to play this translation.

Look at it this way. Either this patch or Elza's patch is going to have everything translated at some point. It will just take some time.

whew, I know a bit of Japanese internet culture and 2ch user's favorite thing is to say "Please die away" to people. So I think I'll go with "Drop dead!"

lol, not that I like using FUCK YOU!! it's just, well
I feel a little uncomfortable personally using it in this setting
if it were an independent IP I'd totally do it but

but this is draognball >:

I'm in favor of this in theory. That is to say, I think we've found a good translation for "Kutabare!" but in general like, for attack names, I vastly prefer romaji to some kind of translation. You know, rather "Genki Dama" than "Spirit Bomb". And good God, I hate "Destructo Disc". "Kienzan" just means "Energy Circle".

Hey, cuss it up, what are people going to do, complain that the free translation is offending them? "Fuck you" is cooler.

OR you could put it as "Keep your eye on the birdy!"

Nice Abridged Reference there

But the Get Lost! or Die! would work ok I guess...
