Hacking Animal Crossing New Leaf CIA-installed on emunand, sdf, online?

I have been play AC:New Leaf installed from CIA on Gateway emunand 9.5 for a few weeks now. After following the gateway manual's instructions to setup and upgrade emunand, I have kept the wifi off.

I have used SaveDataFiler to backup my saves to /filer. Is it safe to restore them? Can they be used on other 3DS units, or are they soulbound to my particular 3DS unit?

Also, I am totally confused about online play, streetpass and DLC. Is it safe to enable this stuff? Not just worried about lock-out, but I heard that enabling streetpass may force me to start over with a new save file?

If I did that, could SaveDataFiler restore a backup save?

Or would I have to restore the whole emunand/SD card contents from before I enabled online play? Or does the damn game do something with sysnand when you enable online stuff?

Not really interested in strangers' houses and villages, but I would like to try visiting a friend's village in the same room.
Can you take stuff back when you visit a friend's village?

Tough question. We don't know for sure what is safe and what is not. All we have are assumptions.
They work fine, I have them all enabled without a problem. But it is a risk...

Street pass doesn't force that. If it did, then restoring the backup would probably disable it again. But I don't know for sure.

For the time being, yes. It's probably safer to use a private header with a .3dz though as in the future they may check your eShop purchases and find out that you don't own the game. It would be really easy for them to start banning people that way.

Took me 2 years to notice this menu but in data management there is a streetpass menu, up to 12 games can use streetpass and that list is in the nand so if he enabled it and restored a save he would be fine.

But anyways, to answer your question, use SaveDataFiler to extract your Pokemon save, there should be plenty of tutorials of how to use SaveDataFiler in the Tutorial board. Also keep in mind that Pokemon will reject any save backup that is not the last one played unless you delete the secure value (which is a feature in SaveDataFiler).

Replace the word Pokemon with AC:NL and there you go for restoring saves!

You can dump your own cart and use that. It's the safest way.
