Animal Crossing: New Horizons to get swimming in new July update

Summer is here, and what better way to celebrate than by bringing back swimming to Animal Crossing? The latest update for New Horizons has revealed that the swimming feature, first introduced in New Leaf, will be coming soon in a new free update. The free patch will be available to download on July 3rd, adding in catchable sea creatures, diving, scallops that you can trade to Pascal for DIY furniture recipes for a new Mermaid set, a pirated-themed Gulliver who will offer you new rewards for helping him out, and more. An additional update is also planned for August, with more free content planned.

It's new for them, so why does it matter?
It's new for them, so why does it matter?

Fun for the new fan experience but if the bulk of the sales are from AC/fans you will have a Pokémon outrage because they will expect a similar but improved system

Updates for bugs vs updates for added content/mods is lost in translation one is bad testing (bad) vs added content/mods (good) :yay:

It looks shitty. Worse than the wii sometimes in handheld. People like you are the reason why it looks shitty because they buy the shit without a second thought.

More on topic...

The game has less stores than new leaf and more main npcs only appear in certain times.
The game has less collectibles and species than new leaf.
The game has less content in general so that players wouldn't access it all by time traveling.(While the directors admit they don't consider it cheating.)
The game's UI makes things take longer than they should and pads the game out.
The game has no way to back up your save so that the animal crossing esports teams wont suffer.

yes, a game that has been around since 2013 and has recieved updates up until 2016 has more content than a game that just released 2 months ago. doesnt make the entire product unfinished

Hey, id take free dlc that people say we shoulda had at launch, over paid dlc that we shoulda had for free lol.

New horizons is my first animal crossing, so this feels like a nice new experience. It was cool how my wife started playing for the first time 2 days ago, and asked me if it was possible to swim. I said no. She said, aw man that woulda been soo cool. Lol

I know this isn't entirely related to the topic, but why does there seem to be such animosity towards Nintendo here? Every time there's a Nintendo-related news thread, there seems to be constant Nintendo bashing. Could just be observational bias, but it feels odd.

More on topic, I kinda hope the Scallops aren't as rare as they were in New Leaf, since it was such a pain in the ass to find more than one a day, and I always wanted the stuff from Pascal so I kept giving away the scallop
Vocal minorities. It's impossible to please everyone.
Mind you, the DLC-bandwagon is what Nintendo has recently hopped onto. They started doing DLC-related things back on the 3DS, but it was never as "bad" as the Switch games. Take BOTW, Pokemon Sword/Shield. All of those are packed with extra shit you can buy.

Now, don't get me wrong I am very happy to see Nintendo adding more things to already good games. But... CURSE NINTENDO FOR MAKING ME PAY TO PLAY THEIR GAMES.

But really, DLC is usually a planned thing. Sooo....
"Packed"
I don't think you understand. Most games with DLC these days have 5+ different ones and many have tens or hundreds of different skins, weapons, characters, etc. Pokemon and Zelda have like 2. That's nothing.

also new fans are being tricked into thinking it’s something new for Animal Crossing:rolleyes: Nintendo at it’s best
Who got tricked? I don't understand why you people come to these threads just to complain. Y'know, upon the game's release, they explained why they were going to roll out DLC like this. On top of not wanting to ship out a broken mess, they wanted to focus on small aspects like this post-release so that they don't have to be rushed, and so they can have content for each season/holiday. Again, I dunno who you think is being fooled here. Long standing fans of the game know it's not a new mechanic, and new players will actually have something new to experience. I know it's cool to hate things on the internet just for the sake of it, but it's getting really tiresome.
I don't know.
I don't care about those posts, really.
What really bothers me is the lack of news regarding Metroid Prime 4.
Kinda surprised it hasn't been mentioned here, but the original trilogy is being remastered, so there's that at least.

One of my first thoughts after getting ACNH was literally "we're on an island and you can't go skinny di... I mean, swimming in the ocean? What gives?" Glad to see they're finally rectifying this. B-)

The new strategy of scummy game devs

1. Release unfinished game
2. Release rest of the game under gise of "free DLC"
The new strategy of good game devs

1. Release focused, polished game
2. Allow coders to continue working and developing on ideas which would have otherwise been cut due to time constraint
3. Continue employing coders and others so they can maintain a consistent paycheck, making for happy workers less stressed about where their next paycheck is coming from
4. Start work on the next game's design and development while coders are still working on the older game
5. Switch coders and others to new game once they're needed, allowing for a seamless transition between game development cycles
6. rinse, repeat
