Animal Crossing: New Horizons imports reportedly banned from sale in China

According to numerous sources, those living in China can no longer purchase Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game, which has no official release in the region and therefore requires players to import the game via services like Taobao, has reportedly been pulled from sale after being banned. Taobao sellers are claiming that they have been given notice that they are no longer allowed to sell any imported copies of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, or any merchandise related to the game. Currently, no official reasoning has been given for the ban, but many believe that the ban was caused by people using New Horizons as a tool to protest, with political activists like Joshua Wong creating pattern designs saying "Free Hong Kong, Revolution Now".

So I’m gonna bet this has to do with the cheating on games is illegal deal in China. I say this because “Time Travel” is openly done in this game and is considered “cheating”.
Only by uppity purists. Even the lead developer came out to say that she doesn't consider it cheating, and that the game is all about playing how you want to. Since time traveling has always been a mechanic, it's not cheating.

OT: I had read that players were using the custom pattern designer to make political messages, and that's why this got banned.

I get that’s the devs don’t consider it cheating, technically it still falls under that unfortunately. I also saw something about the political messages I.e. someone uploaded the Pooh bear China leader meme and put it in the flight path of people visiting lol.

I think that was Japan that made cheats illegal, not China. (although sure, maybe China did it too)
Either way, that's not the reason. Changing the time on your system isn't in any way an issue.
Japan made that law to stop companies like Cyber Gadget from selling those services where you can mod your ps4 saves and stuff like that. It's not necessarily a crime to use cheats on some game yourself.

-- Japan did it to stop people from ruining online gaming I believe

The brutal and corrupt regime in China once again proves that it is unfit to govern a nation of 25 people, much less over a billion. It can only stay in power via murder, intimidating foreign journalists (and arresting/deporting those that don't report their lies), and by keeping the vast majority of Chinese citizens ignorant of the rest of the world and its own crimes.

Bet soon China will ban itself from existence for some asinine reason
Welp, I'd say who mostly loses here is Nintendo, as prolly everyone now is gonna pirate the game, eh

Or maybe the reason why the game was banned is because them chinese are planning their own ripoff or something, lol

Wasn't it Korea where cheating is taken super seriously? If anything, I've heard cheating in online games is somewhat common in China.

You can't be serious. This is dangerously close to the argument that, "Hitler did some good things for the German people." Calling people "spoiled" because they don't want every single one of their human rights trampled over...smh. There is no sugarcoating it, Xi Jinping is a dictator.
so is this how u guys see China comparing to Hitler? You are really funny and ignorant at same time. Animal crossing did nothing wrong, the only mistake was that little spoiled brat uses this game for his meaningless political propaganda in the 1st place, why is it so hard to keep videogames outside of politics?

Just a little remind for tempers that main villain of this tragic story was entirely started by British empire and it governed with repressive method AKA non-democratic way the hongkongers until China claim it back on 1997. All the right which HK enjoy at moment like independent political system or jurisdiction was all granted by Chinese govt, thus UK never ever let hongkongers had such freedom.

A little off topic, cauz there's another funny thing americans must be awared: D.Trump, the Orange man started the famous trade war against China, now the COVID-19 outbreak's burning his ass and begs shamelessly China for Breathers and masks supplier. Absolutely pathetic.

1. What does the UK abdicating rule over HK have anything to do with Animal Crossing NH being banned?
2. China is trying to take those rights away because they're a Communist shithole. "BUT THAT WASN'T REAL SOCIALISM/COMMUNISM"
3. Nice jab at the president at the end when he's trying to fix a problem that China unleashed upon the whole world. And if he can open shit up again by the end of the month and things get better, I hope you're ready for 4 more years with him!

If China is so ban happy that they'll ban anything that someone puts a protest message in...
Write a protest message on the flag of China.
