Hacking Animal Crossing Happy Home Academy

So as we all know Gateway doesn't work with online play, therefore in Animal Crossing new leaf there aren't any homes in the Happy Home Academy. I was wondering though, does streetpass (or whatever it's called) still work to gain model homes? If I were to walk around a mall or whatever, would that work with gateway?

Thanks, cause it sucks having a bunch of empty spaces in the game. Hopefully some people in my area will do the same. Is there any easy way to fake streetpass to get these model homes? Thanks.

from what ive seen on the site you can look up homepass for faking streetpasses with your computer with a wifi adapter/laptop, spillpass if you have a raspberry pi with a wifi adapter and streetpass riilay for rooted androids.
