Ever since Valve introduced hats in TF2, they seem to have become the main focus of the games. Players have made an entire economy based around trading for these seemingly trivial items; this has lead to many "clever" quips like, "Team Fortress 2? More like Hat Fortress 2!" But have you ever wondered just how big that economy was? Well, somebody at this site did. After performing some calculations, he determined (after some initial errors) that the TF2 economy is worth more than $22 million dollars. And that's a conservative estimate. Source Whether it's $50 or $22 million dollars, that's still a lot of cash being spent on hats and other items in the game. For anyone who laughed at the inclusion of hats, it seemed that Valve has had the last laugh... all the way to the bank.
