A vast array of pharmaceuticals — including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones — have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows.

People take pills. Their bodies absorb some of the medication, but the rest of it passes through and is flushed down the toilet. The wastewater is treated before it is discharged into reservoirs, rivers or lakes. Then, some of the water is cleansed again at drinking water treatment plants and piped to consumers. But most treatments do not remove all drug residue.

Another issue: There's evidence that adding chlorine, a common process in conventional drinking water treatment plants, makes some pharmaceuticals more toxic.

Quick, end it all before the viagras gets to ya! Aaaaaaarrrgggghh.

There are a couple parts per billion of everything on the planet in water. In the end, so what? There is still tons more regulations/testing in city water than there are in bottled water. Cows eat grass. Parts of the grass make it into their muscles. I eat cows. Therefore, I'm a vegetarian.

I love Toronto's tap water.
But I think I'm addicted to Brita filtered tap water.
It just tastes...
different.

Cancer is what. Read the article it said the problem is undoubtedly worse than it appears.

The article said reverse osmosis can clean the water to a pristine condition but leaves several polluted not-fit-for-consumption gallons for every one gallon that is clean.

I think the problem is the medication itself. Anti-deppresants are over-prescribed. People are on cholesterol medicine instead of just doing some excersize and eating a reasonable diet.

That's a crazy article, FAST6191, good find.

The media is honestly our worst enemy. They make us all scared. This has been going for awhile and how much of these "chemicals" do you think are in there. Probably close to none, they are just making it sound like theres a lot to scare the shit out of us. Thats what the media does best.

If it was Fox News, I would agree with you. They have an agenda. But it's AP. They are trustworthy and usually looking out for the good of the people by sharing the information they can obtain that other people can't.

It doesn't matter how little is in it. It's not natural. Think of this: It is a cocktail of every medication being used in America. The potency divided by much more than half. However, no matter how little is in there, you are drinking it EVERY day (if you drink tap water) and bathing in it. So, it is a steady stream of pharmacueticals running through your blood.

How would you feel if someone put a tiny bit of heroin (which honestly I think would be better than the cocktail of drugs in the water now) in your food every single day. Even if it wasn't enough to get you high. But you were ingesting it every day. After years it is going to take a toll. Especially when many of these medications have not even been around for more than 15 years so no one really knows the long term effects of them and what they could do ultimately after say 5 years of exposure or more.

Studies showed that the tap water in Toronto is cleaner than any brand name bottled water. Which is why we laugh at people who buy bottled water here.
Yeah, Portland's water is really good too. I don't know if it is as clean as Toronto's though.

I don't pay attention to these reports anymore. Apparently, everything is slowly killing me and the only way to squeeze that extra year of life out of me is to sit in an air tight box and never leave it's safety.

heh truth.

Sun gives us cancer. Sex gives us aids. Water has drugs in it. Air has pollution.

Some people are still living to be 100 years old and older, though.
