Today I'd like to present one of my all-time favorite artists, zircon. This independent electronic audio specialist -as he describes himself on his biography page- has been sharing his amazing musical creations on the Web for a few years now, and I deeply regret finding out about him this late! His electronic tunes and video game soundtrack remixes can sometimes be heard in the media: from the well-known Heroes NBC TV show to video games such as SSF2 Turbo HD Remix (Capcom) or The Wheelman (Ubisoft).

While a 5-CD bundle is available for purchase on his website for just $30, zircon has also been offering a large selection of free MP3s for download among which some of the best video game soundtrack remixes I've ever heard. Below is an excerpt of his work, from a well-known GameBoy game...

The Legend of Zelda - Link's Awakening
Clash at the mountains (OC ReMiX)

Can you guess where this one comes from?

The next Tempcast Intro song!?

There are many more video game remixes on the official website, among which Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and MegaMan remixes!

I recently purchased the entire discography (love it!) and contacted zircon to congratulate him about his music; well as it turns out he knew about GBAtemp, being a video game addict like the rest of us! I thought I'd give him a mention here and share my passion for artists like him. This is also an occasion to remind you that if you make music too, you are welcome to post your creations on our GBAtemp Art Studio forum or discuss other artists on the dedicated category.

Second song:
Super Mario World - Koopa Castle
You my friend are WRONG!

How am I wrong?
Becuase this is the koopa castle soundtrack:

Isn't that Bowser's Castle?
Every Koopa Castle has the same song.

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
