Just finished the newest version of AM2R Switch, gave it 3 full playthroughs, one in Hard mode (first playthrough), another in Fusion mode and another in Normal mode.
It's amazing how much work has been done since the last version! Trully outstanding
I did find some very slight issues in my playthroughs, and I wanted to post them here, so whoever is in the shadows doing god's work, is aware of those and could hopefully address them later on.
Here are all the issues I found:
- Ending cutscenes are incredibly slow, to the point where the ending image of Samus posing in space with the completion time and percentage takes minutes to fade out. I experienced this when first beating the game for the first time, with both on Hard mode and Normal, any subsequent finishes seem to play just fine.
- Following on the issue above, after the game fades out into the "Last Metroid is in captivity" message (after the long slow ending cutscenes), right after that I got a crash in both first completion of Hard mode and Normal mode with the following error message:
Error message said:
###########
ERROR in
action number 1
of Step Event2
I think this might be related to the unlockable messages after completing the game or something of the likes, I am not quite sure, but that's the exact message I got both times.
- I noticed some slowdowns in 3 specific sections of the game:
- First slowdown I experienced was in Area 4, in the underwater sections of the game, it seems entering the water makes the game drop frames and slowdown, could be related to having too many effects or sprites on-screen, I don't remember experiencing this in the previous build.
- The southeast secret section of Area 1 (the one you unlock with the electrical orb all the way down) that has a Speed Booster puzzle that gives you a Super Missile tank as reward has a REALLY dragging slowdown. You first need to use a Power Bomb to reveal the tiles and access to the Booster puzzle, and when you use the Power Bomb, the game really slows down to a crawl.
- Fighting the Omega Metroid also has some slowdowns, in all battles against all 5 of the Omega Metroids I experienced slowdowns, this can easily be reproduced in the Nest area.
.
- (Bug found by @MultiKoopa) In the escape sequence from the Power Plant after getting the Power Bombs; right after beating the Tank Boss, if you try to go to the Save room right afterwards, what's supposed to happen is the save pedestal dies and the room is destroyed and you are basically forced to go the other way. I didn't know this; when I tried to go into the save room, I got some strange error message (didn't manage to screenshot it in time), but it said something like "the room isn't working" or "the event isn't working" I think. It was clearly referencing the event that was supposed to happen with the save room becoming inaccessible.
- I am not sure if this is just me or if it's an actual issue, but I think the Game Over screen is off-centered.
You can see a column of red pixels on the left side of the screen, and the overall left side of the screen seems too blank and without anything in it to make me believe that such screen is not centered properly.
- When playing Fusion Mode, whenever I am in the area of the GFS Thoth, I seem to experience either random crashes or freezes. Not sure what could be the cause of this, one time I got a crash (couldn't take the exact error message) when leaving the room with the Toad in it (the room from Fusion's intro scene) and the other the game just froze when trying to enter the very same room. This only happened to me in Fusion Mode, I couldn't replicate this in any other mode or area.
- Lastly, I noticed that switching the Extra option of Fusion mode from M:SR to Default and viceversa doesn't seem to have any effect in-game. I cannot notice any change in colour palette nor in Samus' sprite at all, so maybe that one's not working?
That's all the issues I could find from my extensive playthroughs of the game on the Switch.
All the issues from the previous build indeed seem to have been addressed and fix properly, so now at least you can finish the game without crashes or any major hassles.

Thanks for all the hard work on these fixes!
PS: On the Credits roll, one of the "Dragon" names from one of the people involved seems to be cutoff or the letters are all too close together. It's actually one of the 5-10 first credited names in the scrolling text.
