Are you on fat32 or exfat? It’s starting to smell like corruption to me. Probably want to run h2testw on your card to make sure.

Update: I managed to reclaim the space by running mac's disk utility first aid on the sd card, which apparently worked! It probably really was corruption. Any idea of how this might've happened, though?

If you are running on a Mac be sure to run step 3 in the following tutorial:

(Macs have issues with archive bit kruft.)

The way that corruption is fixed is the files are removed and the inodes are corrected to reflect the change. There could be more files that were “fixed” in this process that might bite you down the road. I would still recommend backing everything up and formatting to FAT32 and redeploying (or we will be back here sooner than we’d like.)
