Or, at least, representatives of all 300. As hard as it may be to believe, Team Ninja's departure isn't the worst thing to happen to Tecmo this week. The two executive officers of their labor union have filed a class-action lawsuit against the company, claiming, as both Tomonobu Itagaki and Team Ninja (reportedly) have, that Tecmo owes them unpaid wages. Evidently, Tecmo used an illegal "flexible hours" pay scheme that denied employees overtime.

We would imagine that if Tecmo has to pay all these lawsuits out, they're done. It puts the future of their upcoming games -- Tecmo Bowl Kickoff, Monster Farm DS 2, the Rygar Wii port, and the Mighty Bomb Jack revival that only existed in our minds anyway. Beyond that stuff, it's sad to see such a classic game company on its way out, and it's terrible for all those employees whose jobs may be over (though perhaps they'll end up moving to a company who pays them).

Tecmo's response to Famitsu states that they have (coincidentally) phased out the flexi-time this year, and that they were "consulting with an external specialist to ensure compliance with labour laws" while devising their systems. The Tecmo rep said that the company had discussed the unpaid wages with its employees in April, and that Tecmo was "currently calculating those unpaid wages."

IT'S OVER. TECMO'S FINISHED.

I hope that Tecmo doesn't go upside down, it's one of the last "old" developers...

That TecmoBowl game will probably be one of those $40 games now......not that I'd actually BUY it anyway.

Screw Tecmo, I love most of their games (Project Zero owns my soul), but after the shit storm that was the Ninjahacker fiasco and now this, they can fuck off and die (as a company).

I hope the talent goes on to do great things and get paid for it too.

Actually, Capcom, one of my favourite developers could do with some fresh new talent so they can stop being so cheap.

HM. Seeing that Team Ninja is suing them too , could it happen that they do their own thing together with Itagaki and develope more DoA and more NG ? I hope so.

Wow, that's huge. I wasn't really looking forward to any of those games tbh, but it's definitely a shame for a good game company to disappear off the map. Sounds like they had it coming though.
Anyway, here's hoping they form a new company (the employees) or join a good one.

@raulpica need I rehash the "old * never die they just ...." phrase for this case.

First bankruptcy often involves selling off IP (although it could safely be said my knowledge of the Japanese bankruptcy proceedings would exponentially increase with 10 minutes and the use of a search engine) so the games should still appear in some form and in these days of "spiritual sequels" do any of you have any doubt we will see kyu washi* tearing his way through armies with a deceptively simple fighting system. Of course such matters may mean we turn to those who go for fan translations.

On the other hand if they have been mistreating their employees and they go under as a result then some faith in the system may get restored.

*washi=eagle if memory serves.

Well, I've seen a lot of good games get totally forgotten after they had their IP bought

Or otherwise just get an half-assed sequel and "hey let's hope this horrible game sells only for its name" and then "hey this game sold nothing, let's totally forget about it" and goodbye to a lot of good old series

As a big fan of Bullfrog ( http://www.mobygames.com/company/bullfrog-productions-ltd ) your concerns most certainly do not fall on deaf ears.
The sorts of titles Temco inc is known for though are fairly common though so there is hope.
