I agree that this game might suck for some people, but for some reason once I started playing it I couldn't stop.
I wasted about 20 hors on it and upgraded my character in many ways, and the more I was playing, the more I wanted to play.
I didn't feel like this in a long time. Maybe I'm an old school gamer, but it's really fun to go around and blast aliens around ships, expecially because the more you kill, the stronger you get and you can kill even more !
The only thing that prevented me to finish this game, was the release of MP3, but I expect to get back to it when I finish Metroid.
You shouldn't dismiss this game based on reviews or screenshots, my advice would be to give it a try and stick with it at least until you unlock some cool weapons ( the flamethrower is a must, is makes it so easier at the beginning and it does not require to much ammo ) .
You might be surprised at how addictive this game can be !

I too saw that paper mario PAL, but it could be a patched USA game, im gonna grab and find out!

Alien Syndrome looks to me a bit like Alien Storm / Smash TV. Which is fine by me, ive not tried it yet, will do at the weekend but despite reviews, i think i will like it!

I just watched some vids on IGN... it does look appealling.
The main reason why they gave it a low rating was because it's a bit repetitive and the controls aren't THAT brilliant. But also on IGN they said that if it had come out around the Wii's launch it probably would have gotten a higher score.

So.

No reason not to try it I reckon

Theres been plenty of times a game is released over a week before the street date, usually because someone works at a shop which has already received its stock and they rip it!

To my surprise I saw that game in a mediathek and rented it instanteosly.
I wanted to quick check it (before backing it up) ;-)
I was playing for three hours just to check the basics.
It reminds me of Diablo 2 in a future set up. This will be the next game, I'll buy.
Can't wait to start a multiplayer round with some friends...
If you like Dungeoncrawing games and have the chance, give this one a try.

I dont think Paper Mario Pal is released yet.
I'm in the FXP scene also, and I haven't seen it yet.
Most of the time, the minute it's getting released, I can grab it.

Does Alien Syndrome Pal have an update ??
It's waiting on my harddrive to be burned, but I'm waiting for some reviews about updates.

Great... then I'm going to try it tonight.

Boogie had an update indeed to my surprise

I think that had something to do with the mic which came with the game and was used for the first time.

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and nvidia is already doing ARM
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

AI assisted game creation might become a thing

At least that's something I think would be pretty cool.

Many TBs of assets and the programming of something like that is going to be tough but I think it's something we might see in 20 years maybe sooner
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there

and using LLMs to generate NPC dialogue and even dynamically generated quests is something i'm sure is already happening
