Well I'm thinking of picking up an AK2, and I am curious about the custom firmares for the AK2.

From what I have read, there is/was 2 custom firmwares: AKAIO and AKBBS. AKAIO is still updated but what happened to AKBBS? Has it been discontinued or merged into AKAIO?

Second, what are the benefits of the custom firmwares over the official AceKard firmware?

Third, I've heard about Bliss multi-boot loader. Can it be used for the AK2? Does it boot the DSTT menu?

Thanks guys for your responses, and I hope you can convince me AK2 is the way to go.

AKAIO is still going on by smiths and normmatt but AKBBS has been discontinued and made into AKAIO. Edit: sorry for the confusion.

More features. AKAIO features more goodies than the official firmware with just the bear features like AKAIO features wifi updating of cheats via cheat database.

I'm sorry, don't know about the third.

Hope I was of much help as possible.

AKBBS was run by me and Smiths, which we then turned into AKAIO when i added AK2 support.

His code was merged in but he didn't play a major part in its development.

    1. There are AKAIO (here at GBAtemp) and gelu's custom firmware (only for AKRPG): http://www.acekard.com/bbs/redirect.php?ti...stpost#lastpost and http://code.google.com/p/acekard-3in1/downloads/list
There was bliss' custom firmware, but it is not updated anymore.

    2. EZ 3in1 Expansion Pack support, custom icons (txt, mp3, etc.), more languages, better soft-reset, plugins (to play mp3, txt, etc.)... There should be more important features, but I don't remeber now.

    3. bliss' multiboot loader is for SC DS One.

Alright, thanks for answering my questions. I support the idea of open sourcing so it looks like I've gone down the right path =)

AFAIK AK2 doesn't have any open source firmware...

It doesn't but the acekard team provides the source to trusted developers such as Smiths and Normmatt.

Ah sorry, custom firmware is what I meant.

But it's open source to Smiths heh.
