A9LH is an entrypoint that gives access before boot, allowing for 100% bootrate and other goodies. Since it loads before the rest of the 3ds it makes it basically impossible to softbrick. This means that you can (and most people do) dump emunand in favor of updating SysNAND, so you can save a gb on your SD Card and have faster loading times. You can still use all the 9.2 and under utilities (Decrypt9, Emunand9) by using A9LH payloads and holding a button while turning on the 3ds.

pros:
100% bootrate vs 80+% via other methods
Boot speed is similar to turning on an unhacked 3ds whereas normal cfw takes 3-5x times longer to boot
Expanded protection against bricking your system (literally unbrickable)
Supposedly superior compatibility with VC games(didn't personally notice better performance but haven't extensively tested
1-2GBs of additional storage on your sd card if you choose to go the "Updated Sysnand" route
Booting certain homebrew instantly via payloads (adds security)

cons:
long procedure and minimal chance of brick IF YOU DONT FOLLOW GUIDE

I wouldn't say literally unbrickable, a hard brick is always possible, but if you have a backup and soft brick it it's just on par with bricking an emunand anywhere else.

definitely better in every way. GW says they're working on A9LH support, but that was at the end of march so who knows if they're actually going to do that.
In the meantime, you can get 100% boot, faster, and have full cfw support. You can use some workarounds with an emunand to load gateway if you're really attached to it too, but I don't have one so I'm all cfw.

Yeah but if you Hard Brick your device somehow then you have Really Fucked up since that would take some true fuckery to do

With the release of 11.0.0-33 FW I have adjusted my release window by 6 months. Was hoping for A9LH support before the Olympics, but that may be wishful thinking. Uncharted 4 will replace the emptiness GW had created when they first updated their site over a month ago and we are still waiting. Kinda reminds me of all the flak @JustPingo got when he talked about releasing a safe downgrader and got the hype train rolling only to derail and haven't seen him since (on GBATemp). GW should just drop the update when it is ready and keep useless hype and speculation to themselves. As a GW owner it saddens me.

I thought you could load up the Japanese Cooking Mama game that has a 9.2J update on it with the Gateway + Japanese rom of the game?

Any update through Gateway will brick the system, because it blocks FIRM patches like A9LH CFWs do. I can't update via rxtools because I don't have a web browser.

I am currently still using my gateway, and sort of been waiting for their solution. But that being said, i mostly play cia's as it stands and rarely use the cheat engine, so I am most likely going the A9LH method & LunaCFW, with an option to boot Gateway. Then my Gateway will netflix & chill with the dustmites.

I still have mine in my 3DS, but it essentially operates as an extra SD card slot. I rarely use it.

I'm actually waiting with A9LH until Gateway supports it natively. Menuhax is quite stable for me so it's not a big deal.

^It's not particularly hard to use Gateway on a machine with A9LH in fairness. I have 11.0 SysNAND which I use with Luma3DS, but whenever I need to use my Gateway I just boot into 9.1 EmuNAND. Of course, you can then boot Gateway into 11.0 SysNAND.

It sounds cumbersome, but I find myself using Luma3DS for everything except loading .3ds files.

I have two gateway cards and a 3dsxl. I'm on the verge of selling both cards and my 3dsxl, and using the money to buy a new3dsxl and install A9HL on it Fingers crossed that all works according to plan.
